Food for rabbits/hares during winter?

Hi, we have a lot of little animals in our yard ... gerbils, hares, 2 ground hogs (been in yard for about 13 years) we often see deer also .. I often throw various fruits and veggies outside for all the animals ... in July I noticed a white bunny ... I believe he may have been someone's pet and somehow he found his way to our yard ... he seems to have incorporated himself into the hare pack already in the yard ... but just to make sure his first winter is a sucessful one, does anyone have any suggestions on what food to place around the rabbit hole/burrow? Getting many different answers from browsing the internet ... any info would be great ... Happy Halloween!!!
A domestic rabbit CAN NOT survive in the wild. They have no skills at all. He is not a wild animal; he has not experienced nature from birth. His winter will end soon, and painfully. Please bring him to a rescue center.
The best option would be hay, this is cheap, easy to get hold of and closest to their natural diet (grass). The grass will be sparser in winter so the hay will be a welcome addition . Rather than placing it loose around the burrow it would be better placed under a table style shelter to keep the rain off.
