My dog and my cat are due for their yearly vet exams/vaccinations. Both my animals are young and healthy, and are inside animals. I have brought them for their physicals/vaccs previously but I am a little tight on the money this year. I haven't even been to the doc this year. If money weren't the issue I would bring them of course. But seeing as they don't have any obvious problems I am thinking about skipping the exams this year, or at least until I have some xtra cash.
If you wait until your pets are showing signs of illness to go to the vet it may be too late. Animals are very stoic and don't always look sick when they are. Only a doctor can tell you if your pet has an abdominal mass, or a heart murmur, or something else that you may not notice. Having things like that addressed early on is the best way to keep your pet healthy.
If you can't afford a physical you should at the very least keep them up to date on vaccines. You can bring viruses into your house on your clothes and shoes and if your pets are not up to date on vaccines they can get sick. Your dog should be on heartworm prevention too, even if he stays inside most of the time. Heartworm prevention is only available by prescription so you will have to go to your vet for that.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com It's not a waste of money to take care of your pets. Neglecting them can cost you more in the long run.
My pets all go in for yearly checkups and any vaccines they are due. The dogs are actually in twice yearly to keep their bordatella vaccine up to date, since I do board them when I need to go out of town. The dogs also need to be checked for heart worm and have their prescription for the preventive renewed yearly. I budget for their regular visits, as well as having some emergency funds stashed in case of illness or injury. They see the vet whether money is tight right then or not.
Most medical issues are less expensive to treat when caught early, which is exactly what their annual checkup is designed to do, and preventive medicine like vaccines can save you lots of money in the long run since treating a preventable illness does surely cost more than the vaccination would. Find the $ and take them in. You can also look into applying for CareCredit that would let you make payments on the vet bill, and/or or taking out pet insurance that would cover portions of their bill.
If they are in need of shot or heart worm pills, you need to take them. Our dog goes every year so he can get his new tags, and he is outside a lot, so you never know what could happen. We stopped taking our cat every year. He hates to ride, is not in need of any shots, and at 15 years old, I have faced the fact that he could die any day, although he does still get around fine and eat well.
We don 't go yearly. They are on a heathy diet (raw food) and are not sick. We only take them if they are sick, which is quite rare.
It is very importint to get your kidy checked tha can get feline lukemea I lost mine to it becos I was to cheep regrets: (don't make the same mistake.
No, only when sick or need shots. anything else is a complete waste of money
