I am gonna go and buy treats for my hamster. I've heard that hamsters love meal worms. I've also heard they absolutely hate them. Who is right?
Meal worms are a great treat! Hamsters are omnivores, and would eat insects in the wild as well as fruits, vegetables, and grains. Our gerbils go nuts over them .. It's a little extra protein and a treat all wrapped up into one!
Whoever told you they eat meal worms was lying . Hamsters are vegetarians, they don't eat any type of meat, including meal worms! They also don't eat cheese milk, anything citrus or anything with sugar.
They can eat vegetables like carrots, and lettuce and fruits like apple and strawberries.
You can also just buy regular hamster treats from the pet store, or even from wall mart.
But I make my own hamster treats! All you do is rub peanut butter onto a Popsicle stick, and stick regular hamster food to it, all hamsters love that!

Well seeing as regular hamster food is pretty much vegatable and grain and seed matter, i'm thinking giving them a meaty meal worm is not a great idea. Maybe even if they like them, they won't be used to eating meat ... In some vegetarian animals, giving them meat can create aggression too.
Ive never heard of Hamsters eatsing worms!!
