Do Hermit Crabs need salt water?

All I have right now is the water conditioner.
Everyone who has answered is completely and utterly wrong ... not only do they need salt water, their substrate should be soaked in salt water ... and marine salt, no other kind ... there are some hermit crabs who live more in from coastlines but they all need salt water ... make sure you get a FISH water conditioner (without slime coat) and not a hermit crab water conditioner and make sure you get marine salt and not hermit crab salt or hermit crab soaking salt ... the ones made for hermit crabs surprisingly are not the best for them ... better to make up your own with spring water ... i soak all my substrates in marine water and it cuts down on mites, mold, anything that might want to lay eggs like fruit flies ... i even spritz with marine too ...

"Awareness of a hermit crab's need for both fresh and salt water is common knowledge possessed by both new crabbers and pet store owners. However, do you know why hermit crabs need both fresh and salt water? Fresh water and salt water are not just used for drinking and bathing respectively. Hermit crabs have been observed drinking salt water and bathing in fresh water too. Since the abdomen of hermit crabs is not shielded by a layer of exoskeleton, it dehydrates more easily. Hence, hermit crabs store water inside their shell to keep their abdomen moist. This water is commonly referred to as "shell water" by crabbers. The salinity of the shell water also varies between different hermit crabs. For example, the amount of sea salt in the shell water of strawberry hermit crabs (Coenobita perlatus) has been noted by crabbers to be more concentrated than other species. "
