I checked on my ferret tonight and I think she had a stroke. She's having trouble moving like her legs don't all work right. The right side of her body seems to not really work. She's falling over all the time. She also has what looks like dried blood trailing from one of her ears.
Did she have a stoke? And what should I do. It's midnight. We have no emergency vets in town and it's the weekend.
I am so sorry that this happened.
How is the ferret now? I am almost afraid to ask. Try rubbing some karo syrup/honey/ferretvite on her gums. See if this helps. If it does, give me a call/email we can go from there.
She may have Insulinoma. This involves the body producing too much insulin. The blood sugar level plummets and they feel shakey. This can be a serious live threatening problem. If that is what is going on you will need to take her to the vet ( you should do this anyway) He will test blood sugar level. Maybe put her on prednisone. You will have to make sure that you have a high protein diet. 50% is good. The high protein helps keep the blood sugar level even. Just giving sugar will raise it, but then it will crash suddenly when it is all used up. The protein keeps this from happening.

MOST FERRET FOODS DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH PROTEIN ESPECIALLY WLAMART/KAYTEE/...
FOR A FERRET THAT IS NOT SICK THEIR FOOD NEEDS TO BE A MINIMUM OF 40% PROTEIN (from meat meat should be the first 3 ingredients listed-NOTby products!) AND 20% FAT
Un fortunately most pet stores do not know enough about ferrets to educate and there is a lot of misinformation out there about ferrets. Hopefully she is at the vet by now. Please let me know how she is doing.
