MY little sister and her friend was teasing my dog in the backyard, whom was on a leash. He jumped on her and scratched her. She claimed it didn't hurt, so we sent her home with a band aid. Ten minutes later, her parents are on our front yard claiming that our dog bit her, blah blah blah. We show him our dog's papers, which states that he is updated on all his shots. He still wants us to go with him to the hospital. At the hospital, we give our information to the police, and the cops leaving, saying that Animal Control will follow up, and that our dog is to be put into ten days of quarantine.
That's it, like, literally. We were given no other information what so ever. We traded number4s with the girls parents, and we went home. Animal Control should be here sometime today, but are we allowed to fight back kind of? Because really , it's just a scratch. I don't even think it drew blood. Is anyone familiar with the procedures?
What happened at the hospital? Did they determine it was a bite or a scratch. You will need to find out what your state law is regarding this. Even if it is a bite, in some states the first bite is free and you will not even have to pay medical bills. You really need to find out what happened and what the laws are in your state. I the future, no children should ever be left unsupervised with any pets especially visiting children. You NEVER know what is going to happen.
I'm not familiar with your city's laws, but when my sister was bitten a few years ago , they didn't quarantine the dog because we had proof of rabies and other vaccinations. If it's not even a bite, I would definitely talk to an officer to see what your options are. You may end up in court to save your dog, I don't know, but that's a worst case scenario.

In any case, I'd make sure my sister * never * played with that little girl again. Regardless of whether or not she wanted the cops called, her parents still did this, and you don't need to deal with that.
