i was reading about Insulinoma and there are some sites that say you can give them syrup other say that you cant. i would like to know about it. (on a ferret)
NEVER give him sweets unless he has Insulinoma and has crashed . You need to give the highest possible protein level food. Innove Evo ferret is 525 protein and 22% fat. The high protein keeps the bloodsugar level even. If you give him sugar it will raise his bloodsugar quickly, but he will crash again just as quickly. If you have to give something sweet in an emergency, follow by a high protein soup, immediately.
I use a mixture of moistened kibble (high protein please) I put it in a jar and add water. Let it soak for a few hours. Heat in microwave just until hot-do not over heat. Put it in food processor add vanilla flavored walgreen's brand ensure plus until it reaches a nice consistancy. That is the simplest form of the soup. I add raw beef to the mixture as it is processing, as a raw diet is much better for them. You can also add chicken or turkey babyfood or grind your own chicken. Please be careful as a great deal od meats have solutions of salt aded to them these days. Walmart has no fresh meats without added salt solution (you have to look at the tiny print.

I hope this helps!
Okay, it sounds like maybe you didn't get the full idea. Either that or your question is written in a way that can't be easily understood.
Ferrets are carnivores, meaning in their natural diet, they get low amounts of sugar, if any. Giving a ferret Karo Syrup just whenever is terrible for them and will LEAD to health issues like insulinoma. The only time Karo Syrup is actually good to use is when a ferret who * already * has insulinoma gets a crash, meaning their sugar lowers to the point where they seize or go completely unconscious. In cases like this, rubbing Karo Syrup on their gums gets sugar to the bloodstream quickly, to raise their blood sugar to the point where they come out of the crash. Then, once they are back to normal, they need to be fed a high protein meal like plain chicken baby food (which is easy to store and keep on hand) to make sure that their sugar stays at the constant rate it is. Then they need to go to the vet to have their medication (usually prednisone/prednisolone) adjusted so that the crash doesn't happen again.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Honey can be used in place of Karo Syrup, but it's not as effective.
Do not feed the ferret syrup. They do not need the extra sugar. Ferrets can get insulinoma if fed too many carbs. Kibble has a lot of carbs . So if your really worried about insulinoma feed less kibble or no kibble. I feed my fuzz butts a raw diet. If you still want to feed kibble you can also feed duck soup to cut down on how many carbs they eat. You can add any meat to the soup, meat baby food, whole eggs and just put it in a blender or food processor and add water to make it soupy. If you are interested in raw this website will help you.

I'd say it's okay to give them small amounts once in awhile. (As a treat)
My ferret personally doesn't like syrup at all. But you have to keep in mind that they have very delicate digestive tracts, so sometimes it's better safe than sorry.:)
