well my moms boyfriend gave me a rabbit. and i loved it like a son ... and one day i fed it milk, it was ok until 5 minutes later, it started acting weird and it was squirming uncontrollably! and it was grinding its teeth! her eyes were rolling too! i was really scared when i tried to do something it was already dead .. it died in a matter of seconds. i gave it milk and water to drink. i fed in on a daily basis, and this happened like several months ago, but i want to know what happened to my little companion. wat was the cause of its death. is there a name for what killed it!
Most likely what killed it was enteritis (from incorrect feeding ). This occurs when the rabbit is fed food that its stomach is not accustomed to, including vegetables, fruit (or any other sugary food, seeds, nuts, corn and grain - not recommended at ALL). Any new food should be offered in very small amounts. Enteritis causes inflammation of the digestive tract and an imbalance of the healthy bacteria in the rabbit's gut, resulting in severe diarrhea and sudden death. Baby rabbits are especially vulnerable. Many new pet owners kill their rabbits accidentally this way and never know why it happened. It's strongly suggested not to introduce veggies to your bunny until at least 4 months of age for this reason. You can never harm your rabbit by free feeding as much hay as it wants and good quality fresh pellets.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Rabbits should not have any milk, except for when they are nursed by their mothers. Milk has lactose in it and lactose is sugar. Sugar causes enteritis.
No, rabbits can NOT have cows milk. They are unable to handle the fats and lactose in this. Rabbits milk is VERY rich, and baby rabbits may suffer convulsions and die when given cows milk for a certain length of time. Milk is definately not good for rabbits. Milk is high in fat whereas a rabbits natural diet is very low in fat.
You gave it cow's milk! Rabbit's digestive systems can not handle the lactose from cows milk. You should have purchased rabbit formula from the pet store. Sorry for your loss. It wasn't your fault because you didn 't know any better. I don't know what I would do if my bunny died.
I really dont know, maybe it was allergic to milk or something. But I am awfully sorry that she died: (
