After our first surprise litter of 5 babies .... we lost 3 and two are very healthy at almost 4 weeks old,,, they are as cute as can be! They are lop eared blue otters .... any how, about 2 weeks ago ... the lady i work with (who originally gave me momma) came over to see the babies .... while I went out to finish cooking dinner she let the mom AND dad out together (DUH) ... . I hurried up and put them back in their cages but I have a feeling they mated again: (Im not as concerned to have the babies but I am concerned about mommas health and what will happen to the 4 week old bunnies that are still nursing . Has anyone ever expieriance this if so .... what can i expect (besides baby bunnies ... lol).
My rabbit just went through a similar situation. She had babies that were 7 weeks old and started pulling out fur and chasing her babies. well a few hours later she gave birth to 7 more babies. We moved the other 7 week old babies out and are in the processes of getting our male rabbit neutered. But as far as the mother goes she is doing fine even though she is a dwarf mix and very small, her and her new babies are fine. And the older babies are off to new homes and doing fine. I'm not even sure the older ones were still feeding from the mom they were very independent. It sound like your bunnies babies will be about 6 weeks old when the new ones come and I've know pet stores take babies as early as that. Though they shouldn't be taken away from their mom until 8 weeks or older . Based on my situations our bunnies would have been fine leaving at six weeks also. I would leave the babies with their mom until she gives birth or lets you know the older babies have to go like mine did. You can also try putting the babies in a different cage during the day four a few hours with food, hay and water to promote their independence when their about 5 weeks old, then putting them back in with mom when she normally feeds them (for my bunny it was once at night) . Anyway good luck with your new baby bunnies! i hope this really long answer helped at least a little lol.
Sorry, Jessica, but saying your first litter was a "surprise" and then the original breeder let the buck and doe back together with the doe on a litter doesn't make any of you sound like you know what you're doing or are very responsible owners .....

Now you need to wean your first litter (remove them from their mother's cage so they can eat independently) and offer her a nest box. Keep the first litter until 8 weeks of age before they go to new homes. Not much else to tell you . Hopefully, your first litter won't get enteritis and the next litter won't be too draining on the poor mother.
