What size blanket should i get for my horse?
the one she has now is really gross, shes turning 3 in 2 months and about 15+hh right now. i want to get her a new one, but im not sure what size to get her, like on she'll grow into, but not too big, i guess it's hard to tell, but if anyone could give me some suggestions it would help. She's a quarter horse/friesian filly if that helps at all. Thank you!:]
It's REALLY hard to be able to give you the right answer without knowing her EXACT height and how heavy/rotund she is.
I think a safe ballpark measure will be anywhere from size 72 to 75. Get a blanket from somewhere that will let you exchange it if it is not the right size.
My horse is a stocky 15.1 hands and he wears a size 74 or 75. But the best thing to do is to measure your horse. Start measuring from the center of his chest, all the way around her side to the point of her buttock (where the blanket would end by her tail). If she measures 72 inches, her blanket size is 72. Since she's still growing I might buy one size larger than she measures, but no more than that. A blanket that's too big will rub the horse badly.
I'd go 78" at the most, but 76" should be enough to stay on her but with enough room to grow in to.
The best thing you can do is get a measuring tape and measure from the center of the chest, my guess would be about a 72 or 74, if you want her to grow into it probably a 74/75, but different brands' sizes run differently. (ex one horse was a 76"showman, a 78"tough1 and an 80"free runner) So if you don't measure before going to buy a blanket, make sure you can return it if it doesn't fit. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
good luck ;)
I had a 14 hand pony and she took a 70" blanket. Right now I have two 16 hand mares and they both take a size 80". No one can give you a correct answer because we don't know the build of the horse, and not to mention she is still growing. If I took a slight guess I would try something in a 74" to a 76". Try to buy from a local tack store because they will let you return a blanket if it does not fit.
I would just measure her. Measure from the center of her chest around to the center of her tail. It is hard to get something that she will grow into because you don't want the blanket to big or it will rub. But you could just measure her and get something just a little bigger and hope she doesn't grow to much more. Sorry if this is not much help.
