Does this look very good?
http://www.statelinetack.com/item/economy-english-starter-set/SLT700633/
I am hoping to get a horse in the future and i was wondering if this would be a good starter set to get....
Or should i get everything separate?
Also, Synthetic or Leather?
That looks like crap. Those "economy packs" are cleverly designed to draw in people like you who are looking for cheap tack. They are not worth the money. They are poorly made, of poor materials, and can actually be dangerous. It will only last you a few years before it is ruined.

Go for a higher quality saddle (and definitely leather, always), even if it used. For a used saddle, make sure it is a high quality saddle and in good shape. For a new saddle, I wouldn't pay less than $1000 for a decent saddle. It may seem like a lot of money now, but a good saddle will last decades or longer, and is cheaper in the long run.

Please don't buy this. It is a waste of money and it could actually hurt you.

The saddle is okay, but you will have to get everything else separate. The bridle, the bit, the girth, the saddle pad, etc., all sucks.

Some people say leather is so much better, but I have a leather saddle for english and a synthetic saddle for western. My synthetic is the most comfortable saddle for western ever, and so is my leather for english. So it really just depends on the quality. My synthetic is much easier to clean and I don't have to worry about oiling it.
You get exactly what you pay for. Cheap in price....cheap in quality.

You'd be better off saving up and buying quality gear separately.

A saddle is a huge purchase and if bought wisely will last you for years. When you look at how many years quality tack will last you compared to the cheap "deals" that are available, it's well worth the initial layout.

I always buy leather but that's my own personal choice.
I agree with QHLover completely. I know someone who bought that....it was complete crap. Those things are like cheap cars or, heck, cheap horses! They aren't worth the money, even though the price is lower. The saddle color rubbed off on his breeches and some of the stitching fell out within a week, not to mention it gave the horse a sore back! Also, the girth color (for the brown, which you'd have to get to show in anything hunt seat) isn't even acceptable for the show ring. The reins snapped, too.

If you're after inexpensive tack, go for ebay or a less-pricey saddle brand like Henri de Rivel:

But whatever you do, get the stuff separate. It can all be from the same maker and whatnot, but don't be lured into economy packs. Again, the price masks bad products the company can't sell.
Eeeek!!

NEVER, EVER buy "sets" like this. Cheap, crappy, uncomfortable, poorly manufactured *crap* is all it is.

You want inexpensive? Then you want to look for USED saddles from good brands like Wintec, Crosby, Stubben, Centaur, etc.

You have to make sure the saddle has the right tree size for the horse too, so keep that in mind before you buy the saddle. It HAS to fit the horse.

Suffolk leather makes GREAT headstalls for very affordable prices. Bits are not expensive either. Dover Saddlery has great deals on Suffolk headstalls and all kinds of bits.

Good luck :)
with tack, if it seems too good to be true it is

those sets are horrible and will fall apart and never fit a well conformed horse
I have to agree re quality - poor quality gear can be terrible for your horse, nevermind the rider pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

BUT

There is not need to spend thousands on new gear either

A well looked after secondhand product can mean you get quality gear at a fraction of the new price. I recently purchased a saddle that retails at $3000 - and i got it for $500 because it was a couple of years old

Check out a few websites, keep an eye on bidding sites, and ask around a few clubs, people are always selling good gear :-)
