please, only opinions from the people that show AQHA (or APH

for western pleasure, are they still banding manes? someone told me that the new trend for for the WP classes is they are wanting more the natural long mane. is this true? i havent shown breed shows for awhile and getting back into it this year .

any advice would be great
What Lope Slow said. I agree with the "you have to be really good to buck the trend" statement too

: (, But I'm going to try to be good enough with my coming 2 year old to do it, she is a sorrel with a very flaxen mane, and the long mane is so striking. I see maybe one horse per show doing it, so I'll make it two.
I personally don't compete in the shows, but watch them a lot (there are several big, regional AQUA and APHA shows in Harrington, DE, which is a bout 4 miles from my barn. I agree with LopeSLow and Burdfour; easily 90% of the horses on the QH sircuit have banded manes - possibly because many of those horses also participate in HUS. I tend to see slightly more natural, flowing manes in the Paint shows - but only if the horse has a naturally long, lush mane to befgin with.
Yes, band your horse's mane. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Every now and then you'll see a long mane, but the norm is still short, banded manes. One of my favorite "big time" WP horses (Ona Good Impulse) shows with a long mane, but unless your horse is a real standout (ie, World show quality) I suggest you follow the crowd and band the mane ... otherwise, you look like you aren't sure what you're doing, and even if that's the truth, you want to try to pretend otherwise:). Only do something "different" if you're established as talented and high quality and therefore can set trends; otherwise, you just look out of place.
