Do you need experience to ..?

I want to strengthen my relationship with my pony, and I have read about join up and think it is amazing and that it would be incredible to do. Do I need any experience in intelligent horsemanship to do this? Can it be done on any pony ? Thanks
I'm with April one this one. I would recommend clicker training. I'm not an expert, I've only read one book and some websites, but I still got some good results with my horse.

I deeply mistrust joined up, It seems like psychological bronco busting
Do it. Don't wait until you become Mega Horse Whisperer Person (you never will: P)!

That being said, you DO NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Have someone show you with their horse and let you try it until you are comfortable with it. Read books. Watch training DVD's. Know exactly what you are going to do before you start. And for the first times, let someone knowledgable help you.

Be careful. Don't get in a round pen with any horse you don't trust, especially those that are aggressive. You need to have a strong foundation of groundwork before you join up-have you established youself as leader to your pony already ?

It's a good idea to have someone that knows a lot about groundwork there to watch you and critique you.
I actually do not know much about join up.I have heard both good and negative things. My suggestion is that instead of spending money and signing up for gimmicks just spend time with your pony. A little hand waking, extra grooming time, hand grazing even just a few extra pats after a good ride, will improve your bond. Get to know your horse better by spending time with them. It is much cheaper and in the long run will improve your relationship. Good luck with whatever it is you choose to do.
The term "join Up" sounds so pleasant, but in reality it can be a nightmare. I would strongly recommend against it for a novice (or really for anyone). Look into Positive Reinforcement Training or Clicker Training and you will find truly amazing training and bonding that cannot hurt your pony at all.
Nope, you don't really need any experience at all. Just a rope: P

It's really easy to do tbh, just follow it carefully because I've seen people wondering why their horses won't join up when they've completely messed up what you're meant to do! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

It's a pretty good method-I mean it does what it says on the tin as long as you do it right. Which isn't that hard.

Yep it can be done on any horse.
I with the first 2 answers. Well kind of. I think it has its pros and cons but i would say just try and build a better bound. More praise with a job well done , a treat, grooming and washing. if that doesn't work than i would ask your trainer or do more Research on the join up so you can learn more about it.
You don't need any experience to do it. And it can be done on any horse, regardless of breed (though it may be dangerous with certain horses).

But you will have to trust the horse a little (since you have to turn your back to it and stare at the ground ).........
You don't need experience but you would have to read a guide about it to know what you were doing. It could probably be done on most horses or ponies if you persevere with it.
I'd research join up before trying it - Kelly Marks has a website with videos on it and you could possibly contact her through the website for tips.
