Should I sell her or not? (20 characters)?

Ok, so a few months back I traded my horse from the lady I bought him from (he was not what she said he was but she had no more space) and got a arabian mare instead. She is a pretty good horse (she needs work on her canter) but not exactly the horse I "want". She is 16 but seems like she would do better in english (I ride western). She has a flashy trot and has more of an english energy. She is registered with the pure arabian association and has amazing bloodlines. My plan in the first place was to just sell her after I worked with her for a bit (she was easier to sell than the horse I traded in) but I am wondering if that is still a good idea. She isn't out of control, but she is still a little more spunky and I am ready for a horse that has a laid back disposition. So sound I still go about selling her. My dad likes her and so does my cousin, but it is my decision right? I do pay for her and own her. What do you think?
Actually I don't think anyone else can make this decision for you. It sounds like this mare is quite a nice horse, and you can handle her, but she's not really the type of horse you want. So you can either decide you like her so much that you'll change your goals to better match her strengths, or you'll decide to sell her to somebody who she's better suited to. It's totally up to you. Don't hang onto a horse you don't really like. It's not fair to you or to the horse. But you have to figure out what it is that YOU want.
Well first don't be pressured by others .. Your the one who's working with her. Actually your right, Arabians typically don't do western, they rock at English though. This depends on what your goals are. If u just wanna have fun and think English would be fun and new, maybe you could try it. But, if you want to show well and place well In every class, you might wanna try I horse you know how to work with better. It just depends on your goals. How it helps!!!
maybe if you continue to work her and bond with her she will respond more to what you want, this happened with my mare and now she knows what i want her to do and does what she is asked not what she wants she enjoys making me happy and knows that she will be rewarded for it. do you think its possible she could become more relaxed once you work and bond with her
Take some time to try to work with her and establish a bond. If it doesn't feel right after awhile, you should sell her. Even if your dad and cousin like her, they aren't the ones paying and taking care of the horse. Hope all works well!: D
It seems like it would be a good idea to sell her. From what you wrote, there is nothing that makes you want to keep this mare at all, and she is not the type of horse you want . Go ahead and sell her and find the right horse.
if you dont completely "click" with her, then maybe just work her till shes all good for sale, and find another horse that you really click with:)
First of all go with your gut! Sounds like the problem I had with my tb except the other way around. My tb would canter me into the ground and was the most sensitive horse ive rode but I loved her and I was one of the only pple she like and wouldn't try to buck me off. But I had a trainer come and did a lesson on her and she recommend me sell her if I wanted to progress in my riding. My tb was trained hunter but did western as well and loved western 10X more by far. I sold her back to the lady I bought her from and then found a dressage arabian/dutch harness that I fell in love with. Very happy with the decision, I would recommend talking to a trainer and if you do end up selling her take the time to find the right horse for you that YOU are happy with owning!
The key word is Arabian. Spunky comes with the breed. I've ridden one and known friends with them . It is just not safe to have one, unless you have a very good trainer/instructor to ride her and give you lessons with her. I now board at a place where one lady sold hers cuz of being thrown so bad. The other lady has one and she spent a lot of money on training and lessons. She was about to sell her horse but after the training and lessons, she is keeping her Arabian. I was out on a trail ride with another very experienced rider that was riding this "trained" Arabian and the Arabian threw her badly.
If you pay for her, its your decision. Do you like her enough to work to make her what you want? If you otherwise like her, there are ways to make this work. Selling a horse because it isn't perfect is ridiculous, there will be no perfect horse. Maybe the next horse will have a laid back disposition, but refuses to canter at all, and bucks. Then what? Will you throw away that horse too?

I suggest working with the energy she has, it sounds more like a collection issue to me. Isn't energy better than being sluggish. At least the Arab sounds trainable. I'd try to work with the problem first. If you keep selling horses because they aren't what you want (yet) you will never have a horse for more than a few years.
