Why is my horse so grumpy?
my horse is getting very grumpy if u walk past his stables sometimes he will put his ears flat back and try to bite u and when im leading him if im walking him any where if i ask for a trot he tries to bite me why is this?
answer: Like other people said it could be that he is in pain. But in my experience, horses are like that in the winter. At least mine are and a bunch of others horses I know are. Its because generally in the winter people feed their horses more, ride them less, and keep them inside more. They just have so much pent up energy they just get annoyed. My normally super sweet mare gets really grouchy, pinning her ears back and snaking her head towards you and stuff. As soon as warm weather comes she is fine. So thats just another option for what could be wrong with your horse. But it could be pain so a vet might be a good idea. Good luck
Something hurts. Being careful you don't get bitten or kicked, poke and prod to see if he flinches at any particular spot on his body, and then have your vet examine him. Best to have someone else watch for flinching or ears while you poke at him; then you can attend to your own personal safety while the other person takes notes.
hi forest, once you have eliminated pain as an issue it might just be somethng more simple...like he needs more hay, or he could be cold. . i have noticed both of my horses are more possesive over me, and grumpier in general in the winter. i make sure to put a good bale of hay outside for them in their field. they are much more aware of their buddies in the other paddocks and really hawk over thier hay. in the summer when they are on lush grass they could care less if i come out, and they are not so nasty with their buddies in the other fields. cold will make horses act goofy too, so you might want to make sure your blamket fits well and is not causing discomfort...as they can become like a vise grip on the horse unless they are removed and straightened every day. a poor fitting blanket can make a horse really sore and grumpy.
this could be a sign that he is in pain and doesnt want to be messed with. has he been just a little off during your riding sessions or out in the field. Is he moving around less in the field since this behavior has started. Pay attention to his behavior, hes telling you something. You know this horse best, call your vet and tell them what is going on, let them come out and give him a check.

hope this helps.
It possible. horses do some weird things to avoid the pain caused by sharp teeth. horses should have, like us humans, yearly dental exams.
Hope you find out whats irritating him.
He could be trying to tell you that hes sore, or in pain or that something is wrong with him.
Have you checked him over? His back, teeth and legs and so on?
If hes always been this way, then maybe hes just a grumpy horse!
xx
he could be in pain !!!!! give him a good check over and maybe ask the vet to check him!!! you could even get his teeth checked and his back as this could be causing pain to!!!
or it might just be that he's just simply grumpy
