Shoes...farrier....mine.... hers....?
my horse has always had shoes on.... but my vet recommened i take them off and let her go barefoot.
well the stable i am at has a farrier that the boarders have to use. he is a great shoer... but does a poor job with barefoot work. the horses arent due for another couple weeks (they have shoes) but because he didnt do the greatest job last time my horse is due now. 1. my trainer usually makes the appt. for all the horses... so i dont have his number and am nervous to call... 2. he is a bad barefoot trimmer... how do i explain that to my trainer??
My mom and I don't use the barn's farrier either. There was never a fuss about us using our own farrier and everyone is friendly with each other, including both farriers.

Just tell your trainer you'd like to try a new farrier with your horse since he's going barefoot and you want someone who does a lot of barefoot trims.
I would approach your trainer and tell them about your concerns with the farrier. As a horseperson, your trainer should understand when you tell them that you want to do what is best for your horse. Also, remember that it is YOUR horse, and you are the only person who gets to make decisions about him/her. I personally wouldn't be with a trainer who forces me to use a certain farrier, vet, etc. Why do you have to use that farrier? If it is just to make things simpler for the trainer (one appointment), offer to be there to take care of your horse so your trainer doesn't have to deal with it,

You must do what's best for your horse. We are talking about her feet!!! One bad foot...no horse! You need not explain this to any one, just let them know this is the way it will be done from now on. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Find a farrier that specializes in natural trimming.

Do what's best for your horse and find a farrier that specializes in barefoot hooves. People at the barn should understand, they know you've gotta do what you've gotta do.
Why do you have to use the barn's farrier?

Just tell your trainer that for a little while you're going to use a different farrier because your horse is going to be barefoot (and their farrier doesn't do the best job with barefoot trims). Simple as that.
