What kind of horse should I get?
I'm trying to figure out a horse to get for myself. I've been taking lessons and showing since I've been five. The majority of the shows i participate in is jumping, and pleasure. I want a type of horse that is good at showing, but can also be a companion. I want something that I can not only show, but go on trail rides with. I thought about a mixed breed, but I also want a pure bred.
Can you give a little more information? Size of horse, height of fences you will be jumping, and the amount of money you're willing to spend.
umm a good jumping hrose would be
thoroughbreds
warm bloods
or like an appendix (thoroughbred crossed with a quarter horse)
i recomend the appendix cause thoroughbreds are great jumpers and pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
quarter horses have a great brain and are very well for like trails n stuff
so i think that bred would suit you!

Are you competing to win or to have fun? Also if you are tall or short or unusually heavy that will make a difference.
I personally would say a quarter horse I love them and mine does cattle to dressage and everything in between you name it he does it and he is a great show horse as well but it really depends on you if I were you I would look at horses with the training I wanted that are in my price range and see what breed i liked if you like horses with a lot of action you might prefer a Morgan or Arabian if you like calm mellow horses maybe a Frisian if you want a horse that is high strung and fidgety than a Thoroughbred these are not necessarily true for all members of those breeds so look but that is the general notion that I have gotten from being around them
ummm well, a quarter horse, westphalian, Welsh/Thourohbred..........
Defiantly something with thoroughbred or quarter horse in it. They tend to be more intelligent and loving, as well as fiercely competitive and great at jumpers and hunters, as well as trail rides. You could also go with a warm blood, but they tend to have more reserved personality's. Personally i like off the track thoroughbreds, because they are like a shelter dog, more appreciating then a horse that has been given attention its entire life :) but be careful about the horse. You don't always just want a 'push and go' pony, because they seem dulled because so many people they have loved have given up on them.

Oh god, i sound like a thoroughbred addict xD
Welsh are very versitile! BUT...I don't know how tall you are so you might be too big. I would suggest a Welsh/TB cross. With any breed, it's the horse that matters. Any horse from any breed can be very hyper or very docile.
Thoroughbred horses are naturally good jumpers combined with their speed, power, large muscled hindquarters and also there well sloped shoulders. Not only are they good jumpers but they will excel in endurance, dressage, polo ( if you like that kind of thing), and so on.
once you earn there trust they will be a loving companion.
Or an Irish Draught, it is big but is a warm-blood, and is breed especially breed for jumping.
