Help! Bad case of thrush?
I have a TB gelding who has a bad case of thrush. We're treating him, but it has just snowed, and there is no way to keep his hooves dry. He is on pasture board, because I don't like stalls. There is no barn on the property that I could put him in and let his hooves dry. How do I go about treating the thrush if he hooves can't dry?
What i do when my thoroughbred gets thrush is pack the hoof wit cotton balls then wrap the hoof in vet wrap make sure you wrap the whole hoof and make sure you wrap it a couple of times on the bottom of the hoof and it clears flame's thrush up within a week or less. Good luck.
Well, they sell boots you can put on them. But my vet has always just wrapped the hoof with grey tape.
I've heard of people getting diapers and then wrapping it up with vet wrap. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

A lot of the lesson horses at my barn have realllly bad thrush
There is a purple liquid called "Thrushbuster" or "Thrush off" sold at many tack stores. It kills thrush on first application, and can be used to help prevent thrush. Use once a week in wet environments to help prevent thrush. It works like a charm - I used it fairly consistently on my last horse who was prone to thrush. Careful though, it stains so dont get it on your clothes!

Personal experience, worked in a tack store for two years.
According to the hundred plus barefoot trimmers who post on a yahoo group, the best product out there is called NO THRUSH.

It is even in a university study in U of CA at Davis.

It is a powder that goes deep into the crevices and draws out all of the infection. However, many use a boot or diaper wrap to help keep it dry. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

It is available at some catalogs like Jeffers and directly from the company if you google it.
