MD/DC horse riding centers or stables?

Hello, I am looking for a horse riding stable (near 20774 zip code) something that's professional looking. I am a first timer i know nothing of horses. I went to a few places and no one was ever at the desk. You could not tell where to go to find out who to talk to. Or they were not very friendly to blacks or gays. I am looking for a stable were if i plan to go there for years i want it to be like a family. I don ' t want to feel uncomfortable every day that i want to ride there because i'm black or lesbian. i deal with this a work i don't want to have to deal with it there. I am looking for a mature ADULT atmosphere.

Thank you
I'm not too familiar with the Upper Marlborough area, but you can get a nice listing of barns from www.theequiery.com. If you get a print copy you might also see purchased ads for places.

I'm not surprised you didn't find anyone "at the desk". You don't often have secretaries at horse farms, and those who do work there always have some work to do. If you can't find out who to talk to, then call ahead and make an appointment. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Are you sure you're not being over sensitive about them not liking blacks or gays? Maybe they were just a little standoffish because you were a stranger at the barn. Anyway, how would they know you were a lesbian at your first meeting? A barn situation is not the place to discuss your sexual habits, no matter what they are. If they find out you're a lesbian, I think most people wouldn't care. I'd advise you to let them get to know you first , though. I also think it wouldn't be unusual to have black riders in PG County.

Do you know anyone who already rides? It's tough to pick a good place when you know nothing about horses at all. It'll kind of be hit or miss. When you are looking at farms, if you like what you see ask if you can come and watch a lesson so you can see the instructor's style and how a typical lesson normally goes. Try to watch a beginner lesson, since it'll be more like what you'd get.
