Am I too big for this pony?

I found a pony for lease that is 13.1hh, I'm 13, 5'1, 110 pounds. I'm 90% positive I won't be growing any taller because the doctors told me IF I grew it'd only be another inch or 2. A few of my friends told me I'd be fine, 1 is 5'5 & rides a 13 'pony & said she wasn't too big. But other friends tell me I'm way to big. What do you think? Thanks:)
I'm 5'3 so considering what the doctor said you'd be similar to me.

Put very simply I wouldn't ride anything smaller than 14.2 for a number of reasons.

1: Larger animals usually have more comfortable strides.

2: You will have more showing possibilities as many pony classes are only open to young children.

3: While the pony may be able to take your weight your centre of balance will not be as secure. A small pony will be able to unbalance and throw you far quicker then a larger one.

Unless this is the greatest pony in the world I think you would have far more fun on something 14.2-15.2.
I'd be shocked if you didn't grow anymore at 13. At 17 i've still grown a bit recently - i'm surprised doctors would say you wouldn't grow unless there was some medical reason why you wouldn't grow any more.

If nothing else chances are you'll fill out a tad and gain mass, even if you don't grow upwards.

Hence because of this, although you'd be fine on them now - you may well find you do grow out of her relatively quickly.

Also, although for the occasional ride you could gain a fair bit and get a bit taller - for regular riding being even sometimes a bit too big can put you really out of balance with the horse, meaning you'll have to limit what you do and increase the chances of having a fall because you'll be top heavy.

So because of this - if you are looking for a long term pony I would find something bigger.

But having said that - you did say lease. So if this is just something you want to do fairly short term, you'd be alright for now - just don't be surprised if you needed something a bit bigger in not such a short time.
You're just LEASING this pony? Then, if you like him and he's suitable for your discipline, then by all means go for it. You would not be too big even if you DID grow another inch or so. People put WAY too much emphasis on height.

By the way, Rach, although BOYS may grow until they are 18 or so, girls usually stop about two years after the onset of menstruation, and only add another inch or so in height.
I'm only an inch taller than you and I'd probably feel more comfortable on a 14hh or taller pony/horse.

But if you have short legs (like me) you might not look too big on a 13.1hh pony.

The best way to see if you're too big is to see if you weigh more than 20% of it's body weight. A horse's rider and all the gear should weigh less than 20% of the horses body weight. Good luck:)
you will be fine for a while

but i would also question the not growing any more you are 13, most people grow until around 18 yrs.

edit ...... 15,16,17,18 are all around 18. When I was 13 i was small compared to most kids. I am now 5ft 9. I defiantly got a lot taller after I left school. so I talk from my personal experience, not a text book. kids don't stop growing at 13.
it depends, do you have long legs? or a long torso? or are just evenly proportioned? it is what ever you are comfortable with, if you have long legs, then your going to look silly with your legs hanging down really far, if you've got a long torso then its going to look like you are towering over the pony. if you are comfortable on the 13.1 pony then its good, try it out if its no good try for a 14.2 or 15.1 horse. hope this helps?
No your not to big. I ride a 14.2hh horse and I way more then you and I am taller by 3 inches and I am not to big for that horse so no you are not to big. But since she is a pony and you weigh as much as you say you do and your as tall as you say you are take it easy on her.
take a picture of you on the horse, if your feet hang too low under the belly (and the stirrups are properly fit, your crotch should be about an inch or two from the saddles seat) then its probably your best bet to go up a hand. but you'll probably be fine.
Your not too big. You may look a little big because 13 hh is a small horse, but don't worry about it. I think that a 14 hh horse would be better, or ever 13.2, but you have nothing to worry about with a 13 hh horse.
i think you'd probably get away with it, but i'd go for maybe a 14hh pony? but try the horse out and if you feel comfortable and the horse is comfortable then you will be fine:) xx
