information on saddles?

what are the different kinds of saddles and what are they used for?
Dressage saddles for dressage. It's used to get your leg longer and helps you get closer to the horse so you have more influence over it. They have a deeper seat than any other saddle.

Jumping saddle for jumping, it's cut further forward so your leg is in a more secure place for jumping bigger jumps. You can get them with different depths of seat, so if you're jumping puissance type fences you'd have a flatter seat so you're not going to get hit up the backside with a cantle!

Western saddles ... I'm english and have no idea about western riding but I'm guessing it's pretty obviously for western riding ...

General purpose saddles, for people who just want to do dressage and jumping to a low level, so it's cut in a way that makes it easy to do both, but you can get "VSD" which is very slightly dressage, so it is cut slightly more like a dressage saddle and a "VSS" which is very slightly showjumping and obviously cut with slightly more forward panels, but you can basically still jump and flat in both of them.

Endurance saddles, don't know much about them but obviously for endurance racing, so I'm guessing they're probably lighter and more comfortable for long periods of riding.

Racing saddles, have pretty flat seats so that jockeys can get their butts out the saddle and aren't restricted!
I have my own horse, so I would know stuff about the saddles. Find one that fits you. There are English and Western saddles. Do you have your own horse? This site might help you! http://www.horses-and-horse-information.com/articles/horse-saddles.shtml
