Ok so im moving my horses 25 minutes away. If I walk them around and then let them settle for 3 hour can I ride? Or will it be too much? They have an indoor, outdoor and trails.
When I move my horse I usually give him a day to settle. But if you think about it, people go to shows that are much farther a drive and ride when they get off the trailer. He should be fine as long as you aren't too stressed lol .
Good luck, hope you love the farm:)
It just depends on your horse and how much experience they have with new environments. Its nothing around here to trailer your horse to a trail head and get on and ride off. What you are doing is similar to showing also.
I would get your horse there, just see how it reacts to everything and decide from there. If he doesn't calm down, that would be a strong cue that you need to expose your horse to more stimulus
They'll probably be fine if it's only 25 minutes away, however this is totally up to your horse. Some horses settle right into a new place and are ready to go; others take several days to relax. You know your horse best! If you think that riding is going to stress him out, just don't.
i don't see why you wouldn't be able to ride right away. people take horses to shows all the time and don't give them a day or more to settle in. i'd say walk them around a bit then go ahead and ride. it's after you turn them out that they'll need time to settle in and figure out how stuff works.
When I haul a horse someplace I unload saddle and ride, what is the difference?
