I just dont get it and it really pisses me off. I heard someone say that bitless bridles arent allowed in the show ring and when i got a registration thingy for a schooling show one time, it said they were allowed in training classes only. I think its pretty stupid. going bitless shows greater horsemanship and communication so why do you have to have a bit in order to show?! i ride bitless and im not gonna put a bit in my horses mouth just to impress some judge and get a good score (and thats not meant as an insult for people who show). so anyway thats my question: why is bitless not allowed in the show ring? is there any certain reasons for it? thanks in advance.
and im not saying everyone who rides with a bit is horrible, i just personally choose to ride bitless. so please, dont waste your time being rude.:)
It's mainly tradition. For decades people have shown in the classic attire of a saddle, pad, bridle, and a bit. That's the reason they won't change it.
Really, there is no safety, health, or actual beneficial reason for it. Even though I prefer going in a bit I do have to say it is a tad unfair. But sadly those have been the rules for 50 + years and probably will not change anytime soon.

Tradition.
Unfortunately, it won't change anytime soon. If you show jumpers, you can show in practically anything .. including bitless. My trainer, Angelo Telatin, just competed (and won) the level 4 jumpers without a bridle in the NJHP championships.
If you're horse can go bitless, then he should be able to respond in a snaffle. For now, that's just the way of things.
My TB goes beautifully in a hackamore. But he also goes just as well in a D-Ring low port. A well trained versatile horse will adapt to either circumstance.
I have known of two instances where people got BB for their horses and they might as well as been hanging onto the tail as the reins to control them.
Could be that the powers that be would be afraid that a BB riders horse would get out of control and cause someone in the ring to be hurt??
Bitless is allowed in show jumping and in the jumping phases of eventing.
stupid brainless tradition.

there are petitions circulating though, to change the out-dated rules.
I prefer bitless also .... but the powers that be say no .... until you can change the rules ... they will remain so. ...... vote and make a change
It's tradition. You're being judged on how the horse accepts the bit. It's similar in dressage too, as soon as the horse opens it's mouth you lose marks because it's counted as resisting the bit.
I do agree it is stupid. I asked a bunch of showy people one day why they use double bridles in the hack ring when their horses are perfect in snaffles anyway (and can win national novice dressage in a snaffle doing higher level movements than seen in a show ring). Their response, cause the bits make the mouth look prettier (all that metal??? No thanks!).
