What bit would be best?

My dad has just bought me a really nice racehorse (clean vet cert the works) he's used to a racing snaffle - so would it be alright to ride him in an eggbutt snaffle instead, he isn't at all strong and really mannerly which surprised me doesn't run away with you on the gallops either. So would a plain eggbutt or a d-ring with full cheeks suit him better???

thanks!
Ya i dont see why not it really isnt all that much diff. but why change it if he acts ok?? u know?
If raced in a snaffle he'll be fine in any snaffle, they 're all the same mouth pieces (except for French link, oval links etc). I would use a full cheek snaffle on him, it's what I would use and have used on OTTBs as they generally aren't ... amazing .. . in the steering department, the bars of the full cheek allows the bit to really help in turning (bars put pressure on the side of the mouth to direct the head etc gets the point across quicker).
Either one should be fine . The difference between the two bits is really personal preference. there is only a slight difference in feel to the horse. The full-cheek snaffle is good if you have issues with the bit sliding through the horses mouth, or if you have connector pieces to attach the bit to the headstall, it can give you some very slight leverage.
I don't see why not.

You wont 'know til you try

of course, it's not the bit that trains the horse, but the rider. so, you should be able to use a halter eventually ..... if you know how to ride/train her properly.
Since racers run in snaffle, most people use a simple snaffle on them. I use a d-ring on my OTTB, and she is perfect with it. So eggbutt or d-ring.
a egg butt or ad ring would be just fine. i have 7 horses and they are all in snaffles. I like the d-rings a little more tho. have fun riding!=)
Wow .... how lucky are you! Try him out & see what he wants to work best in .... you will know what he likes .... good luck with your new horse & glad he has found such a wonderful home!
