Ok So I will start at the beginging ... this getto family (like 10 of them) randomy walked into our barn about 2 weeks ago ... apparently they all wanted ot volenteer at our theraputic riding program and I absolutly had NO problem, I mean thats great! Helping the kids, we always can use volenteers ... so anyways that day we didnt do it, cuz it was cancelled and for some reason the head avoided them, and didnt want to talk to them. Once I met them I uderstood why. They were extremly rude!!! Running around screaming like animals!!! They knew nothing about horses and were so oblivos!! Now I have no problem about not knowing about horses, I mean everyone has to start somewhere but this family was out of hand. So they decided to just walk around the barn while the head left with her horse on a "trail ride" untill they were gone ... I though she should have set everything straight right there ... but she didnt. So I am lunging my VERY hot horse and all af a sudden th e 2 girl teens RUN into the ring screaming "We want to look at her eyes ... they are very pretty" They scared the hack out of not only me but my horse!!! I tried to settle her down before they started petting her everywhere then asked them to leave the ring. After that this lady was getting on her Freison and they walked right infront of the horse and started petting her chest!! TRhe lady almost had a geart attack ... I cant tell ou how happy we ALL were when they left.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Well I just found out today that they all talked to my BO about working their as stalbe hands ... and guess who all are our new stable hands ... yes ... THEM!!! I almost screamed!!! I amidiatly went to talk to my mom abot telling my bo they arnt allowed near my horse that only the other 2 stalbe hands can handle her ... and I know its stupid but I dont want to souns racist. Now I am the opposite of racist. .. lol my BFF is black! LOL And half of my besties are all black! ITs just this family knows nothing and this has ruined my day!!! I plan on trying to get their early to grt her out of her stll before they start messing with her ... Adivce???
THanks!
What horse did you end up getting? I must have missed that your search had ended ;-)
I have a few comments to make.
- First it is up to the barn owner and "head" (sorry I guess you mean head trainer? Its not a term we use here) to speak to these people. They will not listen to you even if you do try to talk to them and in fact I believe it would actually make it worse.
If they know you don't like them they "could" (and I do only mean could) start doing things to deliberately annoy you. Which is not what you want at all. You need to know as a horse owner that your horse is well cared for and safe, and I do know that I would have an issue with complete new horse people handling my horses without supervision.
I also agree that this should have been dealt with by the people in charge. I know it is a volunteer place, but they also have an obligation to the volunteers safety, paying boarders sanity and the horses safety, to give ALL new volunteers a talk in barn rules and safety issues.

- I do agree with drivers comment. I bought a mare for my daughter and she arrived Christmas day. She was fairly nervous and flighty, I put her in a paddock right beside my house. She had to learn to cope with kids playing, running , screaming (which is what little kids do ;-) riding bikes, the house phone bell ringing, cars coming and going, kids bouncing on a trampoline, swings etc etc.
Now 10 months later she is a different horse. Just yesterday I was making the feeds and looked up to see my 7yo girl standing with her pony and holding onto her tail swinging it around like a rotor. Now people could say that this is dangerous, but I really trust that this mare has learned to cope with pretty much anything and I was perfectly fine for my daughter to do that with her pony.
My 5yo daughter was sitting up on a gate with her ponies head over the gate giving him a scratch behind the ear. They know the safety rules around young horses and unknown horses, but are free to be kids within reason ;-) That same mares foal is just as quiet now.

Although they do know not to run while approaching the horses and not to squeal - that rule might be for my sanity? LOL
- I would hate to have to board a horse, I do like things done in a certain way and I'm pretty fussy about some things. I don't know for sure, but I would assume your barn would have an obligation or responsibility to keep your horse safe (you have a contract).
