My mare got a little bump on her hind tendon after jumping in somewhat deep footing. She is not lame, and there is no pain when I even touch it firmly. I did poultice it and rubbed absorbine on it for a couple days. Today the heat is gone, and the bump has shrunk more, but still my mare is in no pain at all. I did ride her and she still goes normally. I do have show in 2 days. does anybody have any kind of explanation?
The bump it not on her bone, but on the hind tendon. Like I will run my hand down her tendon and with feel a little ridge, because the bump had gone down, there is no heat and no pain.
Tendon injuries after riding in deep footing are scary because they can initially appear fairly harmless, then turn nasty quick.
Scratch the show, call the vet and order an ultrasound. Better to save the money on the entries and save the horse's future.
Hmm sounds like possible a bowed tendon. Those are not fun. And are horrible, and can potentially end the horses career.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com My mare got a super small bowed tendon .. It's been 7 months, and i'm just starting to trot her around .. I didn't even get on her until 5 months .. and that's after a highly qualified vet said it would only take about 3 months to heal.
Point is, i didn't dare push it, because i would not take the risk to cripple her for life.
Get the vet out, it could be more serious than you think.:)
Scratch the show, don't risk her tendon!!!
Sounds like a bowed one. Call the vet. Bowed tendons can turn very nasty very fast. In this case it's definitely better to be safe and miss the show, than sorry and have your horse injure it worse at the show. If you've already paid your entry fees, you can probably get reimbursed if you talk to the person running the show and fax them the vet bill. The smaller it is, the easier (and faster) it will be for your mare to get better.
