My mare got a little bump on her hind tendon after jumping in somewhat deep footing. She is not lame, and there is no pain when I even touch it firmly. I did poultice it and rubbed absorbine on it for a couple days. Today the heat is gone, and the bump has shrunk more, but still my mare is in no pain at all. I did ride her and she still goes normally. I do have show in 2 days. does anybody have any kind of explanation?
You don't say exactly where this is, but I'm thinking she popped a rear splint. Many are painless in the beginning, but they shouldn't be ignored, and can worsen if the horse isn't rested and allowed to fully recover. I'd want a vet evaluation before riding, and I would definitely not be planning on jumping until this is diagnosed with certainty.
I think the safest thing to do is not jump your horse at the show in 2 days . You are lucky that her injury was mild this time, but if you strain it again before it's completely better, then you are asking for it to be re-injured, and the second time will probably be worse than the first.
i dont think its anything major. at horse shows my horses get rubs from the deep footing. it may just be the footing. just wacth the tendon and if it gets bad call the vet. hope this helped!=)
