My donkey has equine Piroplasmosis and I would like to know if there is a cure or what country he could go to in the Northern hemisphere. Thank you in advance.
Thats a disease caused from ticks. If you come from an area where its quite common your donkey has every chance of recovery although it can be fatal. There are 2 types of parasites that cause this disease and therefore incubation depends on which type. Its either 12-19 days or 10-30 days. It is infectious and can be spread from horse to horse and from the ticks of course. Once your horse/donkey has had it he is now a carrier and can spread the disease. Therefore I wouldnt reccomend moving him anywhere he should be quarantined from any other horses or such and contained. Moving him elsewhere would be putting other equine's in danger of infection from him and it would help spread the problem not correct it. The best you can do is contol the tick problem in your area by removing any shrubs and overly long grass that they may be living in and use tick repellents on your animals. Have a read of this article if you want it is a little in depth but good ...
