I didnt notice her having it, until someone told me today.
Ive never known about these.
Her ribs are showing, yet she looks fat, and her tail at the top is frizzy.
How long will it take for hers to be gone?
I wormed her for it today ..
it may vary by dewormer, you can deworm them again after a week, but you don't want to do this to frequently. Every month is recomended for horses that are being taken to rodeos and shows all the time. others 1ce every 3 months. just due to the amount of exposure to worms. her being fat with ribs showing is just wat they call a grass gut, and being wormy.
It might not be only pinworms . Make sure to use a dewormer that is for many different types of worms.
Do it on a regular schedule, according to package instructions. Changing up the wormer so that it's not always the same kind of deworming medicine.
You may want to have a vet check the stool for worms/or their eggs to find out how many she has and what types. They also may tell you a different schedule for worming or different dosing until she's clear of worms.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com It may take a while for her condition to improve and for her tail to grow back, although a good brushing will help it be untangled.
They will die off and be passed over the next day or so, but new larvae will probably be being ingested right away so the horse is never really free of them. it's best to have a fecal egg count done about a week to ten days after deworming to evaluate how effective the deworming was to bring populations down. Other horses would have to be treated as well, and pasture management instituted to keep it under control. Without that being the case, your vet is the best resource for how to manage your individual horse. There are a variety of parasites affecting horses, and deworming needs to address all of the ones that can cause problems throughout the year.
