I have noticed my horse getting bored with her workouts. We do walk, trot, canter, and jump, and do a little! Dressage work. Some days I do w/t/w/c/t/j/w then go in the hay field and gallop (if she isn't tired) and some days we go out on the trails and jump logs etc. She has a 2month old filly that comes on rides with us, we don't go on the roads anymore for the baby's safety, so we stick to the trails.
if you have any ideas, anything even if they sound stupid PLEASE give them to me!
and do you think it would be a fun idea to take her trick-or-treating with me? I was going to finger paint her like she was an Indian horsey along with her baby and go trick-or-treating:)
You should check out
http://unbridledrider.com/. It is a great free website were you can input your horse's training, and get exercises to do with your horse to improve whatever discipline you are working in. If you are bored, chances are your horse is bored. Try improving in dressage, learning some advanced ground manners, or even some hunter jumper stuff! The Master Movements application is awesome for giving you ideas for exercises to do. They also have an iPod/Phone app called 101 Dressage exercises, which is a cool app because you can take it out riding with you, and it can give you patterns and exercises to try right while you are on the horse. Good luck and have fun!
Well horses can get bored just like people, try something new you think your horse would enjoy. Try something you and your horse might not have done in a while or just something almost completely new. You could also go riding without the filly sometimes too.
That would be really cool, Trick or treating with your horses!!?! That would be so fun, I've always wanted to do that .-- As long as your neighbors are OK with you walking around (and/or) on their front steps and lawns.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com As for fun-ness - You could defiantly start doing bareback. Now, from your post, I can figure your not like me, a western girl. So, I suggest jumping bareback, or trail riding bareback, I have started doing some intense bareback, and trying to teach a western horse to jump-kind of hard-and its an amazing feeling!!?! I had never jumped purposefully before, not bareback, but we started and HOLY CRAP its awesome! You seriously fly.
Also, you could try a new subject, like I did with jumping, Im not a jumper, but It sounded fun. You could try teaching her keyhole, or barrels or poles or something unusual and different.
Or just get a change of scenery and try different trails or something ...
you can set up some barrel races and relay races
i ride english and my horse is a show horse and she loves running barrels when we finnish working.
if you have a friend with a horse you can to relay races, which I do with the other people where I ride.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com a pretty fun one was where we set up two separate barrels in the middle of the arena and two buckets at the end of the arena, lined up with the barrels, with a few carrots in them
run down from the starting barrels and to the buckets, jump of while they are moving (you can stop if you're not comfortable doing that) grab a carrot from the bucket and have your horse follow you back to the barrel without touching your horse , when you get back to the barrel you give the carrot to your horse and the horse that finishes the carrot first wins ha ha its simple but with a friend its fun
Try riding western with her! It can be tons of fun, and very new and exciting to an english horse.
Do some bareback riding in big fields. Jump her over bales of hay, logs, and maybe a small stone wall! Race her against your friends' horses. Teach her to bow, rear, or lie down. Teach her neck reining, so you could go ride with no bridle! Learn how to steer her with your legs. Lunge her to improve her gaits. Put the tack away, and get out her halter and leadrope! Take her for a walk to new places where you can't ride to bombproof her. Do the sitting trot on her, and the rising trot. Look for gymkhanas being held in your area (gymkhana=mounted games and obstacle courses)
