My mare Lakota has know black around her one eye, it waters and produces like this yellow gunk, shes a great horse and i dont want her to end up with eye cancer or something bad, iv heard that vets can tatto black under there eyes so the sun wont be as harsh, i am wondering what that would cost and if it would be a good idea? I know a fly mask would help to, but keeping that on all the time would be a job, with being in school ect. but i know i can do that to ....
here is both of her eyes
The blue one does water but not as much as the brown

Well, from the pics it looks like there may already be small tumors forming on the conjunctiva, which should be addressed by your vet asap. Watery eyes can be from various irritants or from plugged tear ducts, but when the discharge is yellow, it often indicates presence of infection. The tumors, if they are squamous cell carcinomas which is probable, can be treated. And tattooing is effective, but if there is already presence of tumor growth, it may or may not be a viable option.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com A fly mask is a good idea and I recommend the long nose Cashel Crusader for pink skinned horses.
I combined the mask with human children's sunscreen for my pink skinned paint which effectively prevented sunburns, and the masks stayed on well. I did have to replace them each season due to wear and tear.
I would want a vet evaluation asap.
If there's yellow gunk coming out the eye I would be concerned she has a conjunctivitis or eye infection going on. If there are a lot of flies that can be a way for the eye to become infected and so a fly mask is probably going to be your best bet for prevention and they're not that hard to keep on most horses, just take it off for a little everyday and brush under to make sure she doesn't get any sore spots.
I would also have the vet come out and check her over to make sure there isn't an infection going on as untreated that could cause problems.
I hope you can see about the Tattooing and can afford to have it done. I understand that it does help them form the drips and the flies.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I would think you should get a fly mask to keep on him.
I know that a lot of horses that have the chronic eye drip and run and infection can turn into cancer. You are very fortuante though to have her with so much pink skin and not be one of those that will sunburn so badly.
