I am going to beg my parents, LOL
had horse roast once .... best meat I ever tasted except for moose ..... good eating !!!!!!!!
She looks good and seems to have clean legs. She obviously has an appetite from the photo, that's good. My question to you is ... what kind of rider/horsewoman are you? Thoroughbreds are high spirited horses usually. A 6 yr old mare is just getting into her prime but since she is a little thin, it might mask her high spirits. Sometimes people get a horse that is thin and after they fatten them up they find out that the horse is too much for them to handle. Also, if she came off the track, she may have issues of training. Just some things for you to think about. I am not discouraging you from getting this mare, she is beautiful and if you are prepared to work with her and you are a good rider, go ahead. If you are an inexperienced rider, you might want to consider a less spirited breed for your first horse. As always, take someone with you who is a knowledgable horse person and take their advice.
Needs some weight on her doesn't she! If she's a TB I would see if you could get her lip tattoo and look it up, see who she really is! If she's been dumped in a kill pen she probably needs her feet doing too, can't quite tell, and if she is an ex-racer it would be worth getting her legs checked. If you look up the lip tattoo you can find out if she has ever raced.
Not a good picture but what can be seen she looks ok. When you say rode through, I would think that that means that she has already gone through and someone has bought her?? I know that they do not keep horses for even a few days for some one to make a get or not get decision.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com That is the way the market is in my area, around 14 cents a pound. But beings that she is, was or will be ridden through that is good. A lot of times the boys at the auction can't get one ridden through if when they put the saddle on they give the impression that they have never been saddled.
For that price you could afford to take the gamblel and do some ground work with her and pay some cowboy to ride her a few times and see what is in the package.
I will never do the carrot and sugar stuff with them and keep them for several months getting ready to see if they will be trainable or not.
If I buy one that I think has potential, I get after them quick, do some ground work and pay some cowboy to ride them a few times for me. If they are not bronkie and seem to have a good disposition, I go on with them.
If they are bad to buck or have a bad disposition or have something about them that I think would not be safe or would take a lot of training to get them over it I send them down the road and feel that I had given it a try and I will not spend any more money or time on them.
Check the mare all over for injury's, problems make sure the horse is of sound mind you don't want to buy a horse that's depressed or not of sound mind! .

other than that she need a loving home thinkYourr saving a poor old horse that was properly someoness BABY "oncee poor animals.
Hope this helps
i've been to many a horse auction and bought about 6 from the kill pen before. You never really know exactly what your going to get until you go and see her yourself. If possible ask to see her being ridden and how calm she is to being tacked up, caught, groomed ETC. if anything you dont want a wild scared horse on your hands! As long as she seems okay, and you have somewhere for her to stay and rest up for a while and also have enough money to keep her going for many years to come then why not:) remember, horses ain't for a few weeks. they're for 30 years.
She looks about the condition I got my horse in . She may be cheap now, but I can assure you I spent way over $ 2,000 rehabilitating her.
Her hocks don't look too great, but it's hard to tell much about her from the pictures. She will be a beauty though!
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com You say she was rode through, but that's it. If this is through Camelot there should be more information on her (race stats, soundness, etc).
I agree, get a vet check done, she looks like a good possibility otherwise.
Hopefully you are an experienced horse person. Sometimes problems don't show up in an underfed horse and come out later as they begin to put on weight and feel better.
She looks really thin, but could be brought back with a lot of love and care. Just be prepared to spend a lot of money to get her healthy, and then she still may have some health issues. However, for $ 175, I would try to go for it to save her from slaughter.
I would buy her (:
Even if she isn't nice, no horse should be in a kill pen.
Shes beautiful, of course needs weight lol, TB is a plus:)
