Which do you prefer? And why?
It seems to be the style to have the full browband or two ear ones.
My show bridle, has the one ear, i think it just really suits my horse.
He looks so handsomeeee.:]
When I get a new horse I may not even use it, all my other bridles have browbands.
If you are doing any speedwork I would say full browband. If your horse is doing wp, trail, horsemanship. I don't think its going to fall off. Lol
I have both, but I prefer browbands.
I just feel more comfortable using browbands because I've seen how easily a horse can learn to shake off a one ear headstall.
I used to ride a big Appendix WP horse named Matrix. His owner has him in a one ear at all times. And I swear almost every time she had me ride him, he would shake his bridle completely off. It was fitted fine to him , but he just knew how to get it off.
And just for the record, I've NEVER seen a horse get a browband headstall off on their own.
I agree that one ears look "nicer" and more compliment the horse's face. But I will always, ALWAYS choose functionality over looks. I'm ok with using one ears for simple, quiet rides. But I'm not comfortable using them for doing more intense things like barrel racing.
browband-but then again, i ride english.:)

one ear bridles look pretty, i agree, but i always thought looking at them that i would hate for the horse to get it off. they looked kinda flimsy to me.
and there are definitely enough varieties of browband to find the right "pretty" for everyone! i have never had the problem mentioned of tangling in the mane or forelock, but i cut a pretty clean bridle path. maybe that helps,:/
and an added bonus, you can always swap a browband between bridles, for showing, or for working, just swap the browband and a whole new look!
yep, i'm biased.;)
I prefer one ears. They are easier to put on, complement every horse's head shape, and look better IMO. Browbands never fit my old gelding's massive forehead and they always pinch. I would really like to see the one eared headstalls come into style for showing because I love them so much.
I love one ear headstalls. Absolutely love them. Love the look, love the one I have, but you also want to love having a bridle less horse at any given time. I have a brow band headstall and they are easy to get on but the horse can't slip it off when they go to itch their ear on their leg. Happened to me, take it from experience IT'S NO FUN!!! So I would go with the brow band. For shows I have a double ear headstall. That's for shows only though. The only horses I ride in a one hear headstall is Po because that's the only headstall I could find for him. (Bought a brow band headstall for him and Congress for the 11.1h Po and it fits the 16.2h Sonny! At least Sonny has a new headstall ....) The other horse is Teddy because I bought a saddle and they threw in a one ear matching headstall. That's the headstall Casey slipped off.

Go with the brow band ...

If I still had a WP horse to show, I would definitely say a one-ear. They look so good in a class! I showed a WP horse a couple years back, and he had the prettiest silver-accented one-ear headstall with a beautiful bit to match, and I have to say, he looked amazing.
However, with my barrel horse, I need a browband, mainly for my own sake ... If we were using a one-ear and it were to slide off, we would be in some serious trouble. I also have a TWH/racking horse, and he has to have a brow-band because he has that "shake and bake" head nod like a walker when he gets into his running walk - I think he'd sling a one-ear bridle right off his head . XDD
My preference would be no ear or throatlatch, just the crown piece. Most of my show bridles are two ear, and work bridles are all kinds. I've been riding a lot of different styles and horses for over 40 years, and I have NEVER had a bridle come off unless it broke. I can't even really imagine a bridle just sliding over the horses head on its own, and I don't let them rub.
I have personally always owned the browband type ... i fell that the one ears may look more professional in show rings but for trails and other general riding I really like my browband. I don't show so i don't really need a one eared.

I prefer browband because they are less likely to slip off. The only place I would really feel comfortable using a one-ear is in the show ring; anywhere else I would be worried that a horse would scratch his head on something and pull the bridle right off ...
Browband. Stays on better and looks better, especially on long-faced horses like my Tenn. Walker. Ah, and just more symmetrical!
Ummmm. depends on if you have a good sturdy 1 ear like my dad's and what ure doing. In the show one ear on trail deffinitly the browband.
