How do you make beet pulp?

I know you must add water to make it expand before the horse eats it but how much water do you add?
When I made beet pulp I would do 1/4 beet pulp, 3/4 water. But I've heard it's 1/2 beet pulp, 1/2 water.

When my old horse was on it (pelleted beet pulp), we'd put the amount he got in one of those water buckets and then fill it to the top with water. We'd let it soak for 12 hours before he got put in his stall for feeding time.
i put 5 quarts into a bucket. i put lots of water on it. about a inch from the top of the beet pulp. i let it sit for 12 hours. i check it after 6 hours. if it doesn't feel watery i add some more water. i feed it once a day. hope i helped!=)
