Hi, im 12 almost 13 and i have experience with looking after horses (i have 2 shetland ponies and have leased 2 horses before and have had donkeys before aswell!)
Anyways the question is, my parents dont have much money anymore so they cant get me a horse, and i understand that, but i realised how much i want a horse so i will stop at nothing to get one! I have decided to save up for no matter how long it takes me to get a horse, heck maybe i could trade one shetland with money and get a horse like that but that would be hard:/
I dont expect my parents to pay anything at all
im just wondering how long it might take if i get around 200 a year, thats why i said it might be better if i traded one of my ponies
dont call me spoilt because im not
i cant lease a pony because my mum wont let me but for some reason im aloud a horse lol!?
Im aloud a horse if i can pay for it!
so also need help with ways i could make money>
please help guys
thanks x
hello! i bought a horse recently and i had to save up for it as well because my parents couldn't afford one. if your saving 200 a year its most likely going to take you about 6 or 7 years and by then you'll be well into horses not ponies so you'd be lucky to get a cheap horse. what i did was i made a deal with my dad that i saved up 700 hundred euros he'd pay the rest. so for my birthday and christmas off all of my relations instead of presents they gave me money. i also did lots of babysitting and saved all my small change and i got my 700 hundred. it felt like i'd never get there i nearly gave up a few times. so just make sure you keep at it and don't be tempted to use the money. now i have a lovely 14.2hh conneara called Ben and im delighted. Oh and also when you finally do save the money dont rush into buying a horse just for the sake of buying one. take your time and make sure you get the horse on trial and get it vetted.

Hi my names beca. I have 2 say ever since I was young iv always wanted to have a horse my parents never had much money so I never got the chance 2 get one or even go riding as much as I wanted to. So to have what u have is what I cal lucky and you should be thankful for what you have when you get older you wil get the chance one day to have what u want but u wil also have 2 work for it . For now respect ur parents they may not be able 2 aford a horse but just remember what u have got already.
You do realise horses are waayyy different from shetland ponies? Shetlands are the hardest horses/ponies on earth ... So they resist a lot of things. Though prone to laminates a fair bit.
But horses need more things, they are much different. I really don't think a 12/13 year old could afford a horse ...
Think of all the costs feed, livery, vet, worming, bedding ... the list is endless, oh and tack which can cost 100/200 for a second hand ...
Yes every little girl wants a horse but in reality many of us can't keep up with cost and responsibilty ..
It will take quite some time to earn the money for a decent horse. 200 a year isn't very much

Also with the fact that you are only 12 (going on 13) not much out there for jobs, I would look into a local ridding stable where you could possibly work for horse
well depending on where you live you can go to a feed lot auction and rescue you one for if you sell one of your Shetlands (: and you could lease one of your ponys to a little girl to make money that way (: maybe like a partial lease or full time lease hope i helped
Ask your friends for donations, Lemonade stands, sell cookies, get some friends together go to a busy place and if you know how to play an instrument play that and you could ear a few bucks, have a garage sale, have an attic sale , etc
Hope i helped!!!
Well, I guess it all depends upon how much you want to spend on horse? My horse was only $ 500 and she is a thoroughbred ex-race horse from Native Dancer bloodlines and she's fabulous! I guess I just got really lucky.
As far as making money. I used to just look for any opportunity when I was your age. I'd do laundry, dishes, mow the lawn, clean out the garage, rake leaves. Anything for 50 cents here and a dollar or two there. I would just save up every penny I could make. I'd even take my change to the bank and have it transferred to paper money, and it did add up quick!
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Work hard and hang in there! Trading a pony isn't a half bad idea either. I wish I would have sold my pony when I was your age and put the money toward a horse. I worked with that pony for a long time and made her into a really nice pony after she was a real brat when I got her! She went from bucking me off, biting and kicking to a pony that would go english, western, jump, and neck rein as well as driving! She would have made a great kids pony and I should have been able to get more for her than my parents paid. But she just retired to my cousins farm instead. What a waste of a good pony.
