what do you think about tying up horses for a long peroid of

By long peroid i mean 5-10 hours. What is your opinion?
It all depends on what kind of horse it is? Riding school ponies and quiet old ponies would most likely be ok with it. But i wouln't recommend tying up lively horses or thoroughbreds because incase they panick they might cause themselves an injury. and if you were to tie up your horse you have to make sure to give him a long lead that he could walk about a bit to stretch his legs and feed and water, most people woudn't recommend it. and neither would but not because its cruel or anything just because it may cause an accident.
Our ranch horses are normally tied up during branding and the such for hours on end, but they also work very hard for that break and seem to enjoy "lounging" in the sun. They have great patience and don't pace or paw or have any of those types of bad habits. As long as you give them water, they seem fine.
If you mean just tie the horse without shade, water, food for no other reason than to tie the horse (not talking about a horse that's being used for roping or at a branding or whatever )... pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Just tying the horse to a post .... and leaving him there for 5-10 hours without any food/water/shade.....then

I think it's what neandrathols do to break a horse.

If someone cares about the horse ... they won't do this for that long. There's NO reason to force a horse to stand tied for damn near an entire day!

The horse isn't a slave and shouldn't be treated like one.

1-2 hours TOPS is what decent human beings do. Any more time than that, and it's a Me Tarzan You Slave mentality.
Clinton Anderson does this as a training technique. He ties the horse to a pole for several hours to teach is patience. He calls it his "patience pole". I guess it must work, but some time I'd like to tie Clinton to a pole and see how he likes it.

I have a neighbor who always seems to have a horse tied in his round pen for hours at a time. He must also use this technique. I don't know how effective it is, but some people must believe in it.
My miniature used to be terrible at standing still. So lately when I take my big horse for a ride, I leave Eddie tied up. Its only about 2 hours, but he has come a long way, and will stand still for the two hours perfectly now.

As long as there's some water available, I am sure it should be fine. Also leaving space for them to stretch there legs. Because If I was tied to a post for 5-10 hours, I would love to stretch my legs and have something to drink.:)
If they can move around slightly, are monitored to check that they aren't comfortable or anything and they have hay and water and are also fine with it, then that is the only time that it's ok.
It depends on for what! The drafts that we take to shows mostly end up being in a "tie box" for "several" hours and do fine as long as you are exercising them appropriately
Animal abuse. If your gonna have them you should have a place for them to roam while your not present.
could you give more information about how it is being tied?
cruel?

they get stiff
