i might quarterboard colleen, she is amazing, i want to just get her over a pole, she is scared, and freaked out by them i think she had an accident before or something, i will start by walking her over to the pole, then letting her sniff it, then turn around and walk towards it again, if she freaks out again (probably will) what should i do, i need suggestions on making her less scared of poles and maybe even not afraid anymore, i will try and i understand it might be impossible but i want to at least try, any suggestions? also i want to try and earn her trust and maybe get her over a pole without forcing her or anything. i want suggestions on getting her over a pole without force, just asking.
You should be able to get her past her fear of poles, but you will probably need a lot of patience. In this case, I think I'd start by getting her to walk over the poles while you are leading her. Carry a dressage whip or other long whip so you can tap her on her sides to move forward when she hesitates, without turning your head or body backwards.
you need to make her time around poles pleasant-so I think the best way to do this is to let her associate nice things near poles - feed her near enough poles - gradually moving her bucket nearer them until she eventually has no fear of even standing with a pole in between her front and hind legs ... dont rush it - take your time and let her develop her confidence slowly - when she is walking near them with her feed bucket comfortably, you can then try and lead her over them and eventually build up to riding her over them in a walk - then adding more and so on

Work the horse fairly hard on the ground - lots of direction changes. Only let her rest at the poles, when she's standing quietly near or beside them. Poles=Rest/Break time/5 star hotel! Good Luck!
I would turn her out in a round pen with poles in it. She can then sniff and explore them in her own sweet time and learn that they are no big deal.
Just be persistant but dont do it too much that she is even more scared. Do it like 30 min a day and take it slowly.
have to take time and patience
