My horse got out today, time to call the vet?

So i got home from school today and went to go check on my horse and was horrified to find that he had various cuts on his back leg and a small puncture on the front of his shoulder (not quite his chest). I went to go get some alcohol wipes from my horse first aid kit and some ointment. I have now cleaned the wounds, but when i tried to walk him he was clearly in pain. He limped for a little bit before walking quite normally. I put him in the stall for the night because i thought it might be safer (he won't be chased around, etc), when i was walking back i found out from the owner of the paddock that he had gotten out and been to next door vegetable garden. I was thinking the cuts might be from barbed wire. My family helped me with him when i was down there and they all said he should be fine, but i'm a worry wart and can't stop thinking that i should call the vet . I was thinking that i'll check on him tomorrow and if he is any worse or not any better i'll call the vet. But do you think he can wait that long? Or should i get the vet out now? He is eating, drinking, etc. And i covered the wound so that no flies can infect them. So what should i do?

Please no rude comments.
Depending on where the puncture wound is he may be alright till the morning but the trouble with those is you never know how deep they go. I would call a vet just now and at least have a chat with them about him - they're usually quite happy to do that and it will help put your mind at rest if they are happy to leave him till tomorrow and it doesn't cost you anything to have a chat.
He can wait to see the vet until tomorrow. Puncture wounds can be troublesome because you can't tell how deep they are, what might be stuck inside it, and they can heal on the outside, blocking drainage from the inner parts. It would probably be a good idea to get him on some antibiotics for it, or at least see if the vet thinks there is anything you should do.
If all the cuts seem to be superficial (not to deep) and just little scrapes i would say he will be fine and you shouldn't be worried especially if you clean and check them everyday. If they look worse tomorrow I might call the vet but if theres no change i would just let him be and give him a few days.
if the wounds are not that serious just wait and see how he is tomorrow, but if they look bad and he is in a lot of pain, call the vet out now.
If the puncture is deep, i would call a vet .. It needs to be washed out really well and not allowed to heal from the outside .. Because infection can become trapped .. you want it to heal from the inside out ..
When in doubt, call the vet.
If the horse has not had a Tetnus shot he should have one!
im sure he will be fine just make sure you keep them as clean as you can and change the dressings once in the morn and once in the evening and you should if you are able you need to give him a shot of penicillin for 3 days to fight infection that he may have gotten in his cuts in scrapes but if you aren't able to give him shots have one of the ppl certified at the barn to do it im sure he will be fine my horse had a giants 1inch and half cut deep into her leg and one in her back leg it wasn't as deep but it was there i gave her penicillin for 3 days to fight off infection and change her dressings ever morn and evening and she is perfectly fine now hope i have helped
The bute would help for the pain for sure, as long as the cuts aren't deep I don't think there is any reason for a vet. Change the dressing but I think he should be out in the paddock moving around. If you keep him in the stall he will get stiff with his wound. I think you should just wait until the morning on a decision about the vet but im sure he will be fine pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
