okay i just love horses, and this saturday my cousin dean is going to teach me how to ride without him leading me. Well its just when i get on the horse i dont want to do anything to upset her. Even to save my life i could never hurt a horse! Even if it's an accident i just want some advice.
Thanks! ~
Be confident, the horse can sense if your scared and it scares them/makes them worried! So just remember what your cousin taught you when he was leading you and apply those same skills to riding without somebody leading you. You want to be firm but kind when riding, this way the horse knows who's in charge! This is very important in riding. If you are close with your cousin it should be easy for you to ask questions! So ask them, i'm sure he'll show you how tight the reins so your not tugging at the horse 'mouth, since in leading you don't use those skills a lot!
Have fun! Make sure you wear a helmet (better safe than dead ) no matter how "bomb proof" or "dead broke" a horse is. Also make sure he teaches you the emergency stop. Of course, you will probably not need it, but its good to know in case you ever do. Relax, have fun, and ride more! If you feel yourself getting nervous take deep breaths. Horses are very sensitive and can read your emotions. If you take deep breaths it tricks your body into thinking you are relaxed and thats what the horse will feel . End on a good note, and if you have any problems, don't get frustrated. Riding is hard, but SO rewarding. Its the best sport ever:)
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Good Luck, and HAVE FUN!!:)
Do you mean like kicking? It really doesn't hurt the horse, its just a reminder to not slow down if they were to. All you need to do is mainly relax and the rest will come. if you need to, hold on to the horn with a hand on the reins (if it is a western saddle) if it's english, grab some mane. trust me they cant feel it. also, your cousin will be nearby, so if something goes wrong, they can grab the reins and take control. there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Horses can send pretty much EVERYTHING that you are feeling. You're naturally going to be a little nervous, because it's you're first time riding ... but just try to relax and remain calm. If you just take the guidance from your instructor, you'll be fine. You'll be on your way in no time! Just relax and have fun!
Best of luck! Xx
Just realx and concentrate. If you read up about horseback riding and learn too much too soon, you could be trying something too hard for you and it could hurt your performance on the basics. Just listen to what your cousin says and relax. heels down:)
i agree with kikn, also listen to what your cousin says, be sensitive to the horse (don't swing your legs around and don't tug to hard on the bridle) , just have fun:)
just get over it and be quite because if you love horses enough to not even care what they do because you 'dont want to hurt it' you dont even have the right to ride one!!! !!!
Sit up straight, shoulders back, eyes forward, hands and body relaxed, heels down .... and just listen to your cousin and have fun.:)
Yeah just dont do anything too wacky and have fun. Start of slow then you will gain more and more skills. Have fun:)
Relax and have fun.:)
