I am considering half leasing out dasher for next season so i can focus on Jake and Ruby a little more. Hes pretty easy to run, so a kid who can ride would do well with him. I trained him myself so I know this horse to a T. He 's also insured.
Have you ever had any bad situations leasing out a horse? I plan on leasing him out for like $ 200 a month. Plus they will be paying for entry fee's at rodeos/barrel races, they will also be pitching in for gas to go to these shows. Which i wouldnt ask for more than $ 20. This horse is also kept at my house, I have an indoor and outdoor arena.
I'm just a little worried this is going to turn into a bad situation.
You'll be fine as long as you find the right situation. You want a trustworthy person - someone who you know will take good care of him no matter what. To keep everything going smoothly, you should write a contract (or, even better, get a lawyer), so that you know who's responsible for what.
I have not but I've heard of some bad situations people have gotten themselves into when leasing out their horses. Like people not paying their lease fee, or not getting the vet when needed, or not taking care of the horse. I think its better to be safe then sorry and not lease out the horse but if you have the sign a paper saying they will pay the 200 a month, and care for the horse blablabla then I think you'll be fine.
You shouldn't be worried. If you find a good kid with some horse experience then he should be fine. Remember to write up a contract and have it signed straight away so you won't have any problems with payments and the care of your horse and when you can take him back etc ... So if something does go wrong you can still get your horse back. Write up an agreement that you can come and visit once a week to see if they are caring for your horse properly. Good luck:)
i have had some leasing problems in the past but the problems had to do with the people. if you are a good person to lease from and you find a good person to lease to then it will be fine. The biggest problem is roomers. I have heard so many people bad mouth their horses owners. Have fun !!!!!!
I lease my horse out on free lease and the people who had him sold him, then they sold him again, then someone took him from those people because he was being neglected, sitting in a stall all day wasn't cleaned for 2 months he wasn't feed ETC. anyways I found him and took him home and fattened him up! Hes ok now. But you have to watch who you are leasing him to, make sure you can visit, I wish I could of but i was in the hospital and therapy. If your gonna lease MAKE SURE to visit and see what care he is getting. Good luck.
My dad leases out some of the more seasoned jumpers from our stud to up and coming riders who want to get noticed and there all fine - treat them like kings - the lease on them is pretty steep tough (around 1,000 + a month depending on their performance and we get all their winnings)

I leased out my own daughters 11.2hh grade A to a''knowledgeable''home and it came home with a rock hard mouth and spooked at everything for about a month (that pony could be hacked trough the outskirts of our local town and went perfectly in the woods before it went.) that was the worst experience I've had.
Yes, i had a horrible situation, but i could have been prevented.
I leased my 19 year old bombproof pony to a very stubborn stuck up 13 year old.
It was a full lease as i had another horse who was very green and i needed to work with.
So this girl came down to the stables before and after school,
went in the indoor arena for an hour and a half, doing flatwork for an hour, and jumping for the rest.
Then came down after school, and went on four hour hacks, then didnt feed my poor baby!
As it was a full lease she wasnt at my house so i didnt know when she was being fed, or if at all.
But after about 3 months i went to visit her on my only free day, and i was horrified! My pony was so skinny, he had cuts all down his legs from jumping without wraps. And he was terrified or the bridle or saddle. If i had gone down sooner i dont think it would have been that bad.
