I have heard some pretty mean things that are just ridiculous, I just brush it off and try even harder. What are some of the meanest comments people have made about you or your horse, even if they where completely outrageous? I get a lot of comments about my horse being a rescue and not well bred, even though he has great conformation and is the best horse I could ever ask for.
I can't think any off the top of my head, other than when I was still running my gelding Reece we put down a week or so ago - A girl had the nerve to tell everyone that i ruined him because you aren't supposed to run old horses, and that because He didnt go into a stall at night i was cruel because "all barrel horses should go into a stall at night." I was beyond pissed, This horse didn't go into a stall back then because he was better outside and would sometimes stock up. As he got older and i retired him he went in a stall at night .. but the fact this girl had the nerve to say that to all my friends was appauling. I confronted her about it, and she wouldnt say a word to me about it. She never did say sorry, I ignored her for about 8 months, but realized It was stupid so i was the bigger person and at a barrel race one day told her good run .. from then on shes talked to me but never brought up the rude things she said about me. I havent heard a lot, but im sure people get brave when you dont know they said it.
With my old horse everyone said that he should've just been put to sleep, because he's dumb, terrible conformation, and very ornery. They would also say I only liked him because he was easy to ride, and almost too advanced for me, even though he was a great beginner horse. I loved my horse, and tried to ignore others, even though it was hard.
I don't recall anyone saying openly mean things about my riding. I've always been confident about my riding, and most of the people I rode around when I was younger, I thought I was a little more advanced , to say the least. I'm at the age now, that people are more mature and don't make petty comments to each other anymore.

People have criticized my horses and the way I care for them though. Like how I don't keep them in stalls, I don't blanket them to the point where they keep a summer coat, and they don't have bridle paths. All those things are unnecessary IMO (except some horses do stay stalled for the better, but that's a rarity).
And I always felt like some people thought my mare was too old to be running, but then I'd hear "How old is Honey?" And I would say "19", and they'd be like "Wow , I thought she was way younger! ". So I guess that was in my head. The looks I always thought I was getting might have been for my young age.
People have this weird idea that my horse is lame, although she's been sound for at least 5 months. I got her as a rescue this last Spring, and she was dead lame THEN.
I've had her seen by specialists and vets in my area and they all say she is sound for jumping. It's just little immature kids who don't know anything, but it still bugs me because it's not true and I have higher morals than to ride a horse who's in pain.
That with a horse like mine, im never going to get any better at riding.

It wasnt my fault, or his though, he had just been spoilt as a youngster and so has always acted that way, and to be honest, i dont care about gettin better, as long as i can ride him without injuring him, im happy just to go on hacks and do flatwork in the school.:)
When I was first learning to ride I had a greenbroke mare who knew less than I did. We'd just end up on the side of a hill and be stuck there. My friends would laugh about what a terrible rider I was. But I didn't give up I just kept on riding and within a year I was riding like an indian and the same kids would say "wow". It's just practice, practice, practice. Just like anything else. The more you do it the better you get.
Most people don't see me ride. All my friends are not really into horses and I spend most of my time on trails so most people don't see my riding. But, I hate it when people say riding isn't a sport. Even my doctor said it isn't a sport!
someone once said that i would never be able to do anything with my horse because she was so crazy. Haha ... we did great and people were AMAZED.
