some one told me i should not love horses so much because they "can not in any way love you back. horses and other animals dont feel love" what do you think about it? i think its crazy!
LQ-i am doing a project on horses. I need some horse colors that minis, fell ponys, arabians, gypsy vanners and hanoverians can be. I have black white bay grey and palimino. I need 2 more!

Horses do not know 'love' as we do.
For those of you that say your horse comes to you when they see you, that isn't love, that is because you are going to give him a treat or feed. If not immediately, soon enough.
I get a great welcome when I go down to feed the barns in the mornings and evenings, nearly every horse whinnies to me but is it because they love me? Nope, it is feed time. If you went down every morning instead of me then after the first day they would welcome you the same way.
If you sell a horse and it is happy in its new home then it will recognise you but not necessarily be interested in you.

I think that it is wrong to say that. Animals, including horses (and maybe especially them), can love you back, and they can feel love. If they couldn't why would your horse, nudge you with its soft nose and nicker when you come near. They have their own ways of feeling and showing emotions, but it doesn't mean they don't have any. And anyway, the person who told you this, is not a horse, so how can they explain why they think animals don't have emotions?
They can also be black, although it's rare with Arabians, bay, and brown.
My trainer says that horses can't love you back. I believe it is false because my horse winnys when he sees me and my friends horse bites and bucks her off when she comes to see her every 2 months, they get sad when they don't see you. & my horse licks my hand. I lost my horse for 6 months I sent him on free lease and he went through 3 homes and when I found him he looked at me and neighed for the first time i've ever heard him neigh. It was an amazing thing. They do love you like any Other animal, even though my trainer says they don't have the same love as dogs.

"My horse loves me because he follows me in the paddock all the time "like the answer above, its dominance. It's the leader and follower. horse understands this, we obviously don't sometimes ....
'My horse must love me because he gives me cuddles' Or ... maybe ... more logically your horse wants something (like the answer above), like a scratch, treats or because its head is itchy.
Horses don't love, the most they can give us back is acceptance and respect. We can love them though:)

If horses couldnt love you back then i dont think i would be as interested in them. Me and my horse are completely connected, i have taught him so many tricks, stopped him being so green and we get on amazingly, whenever he hears my car pull up, he will run up to the gate and come to greet me, but he never does it for anyone else. So if thats not love i dont know what is.
I more or less agree. That's not to say I don't love my horse (s), because I do. I'd be in tears if I had to sell Zip right now, or if something happened. But he doesn't "love" me for who I am. He likes attention, and he's comfortable with me because I'm familiar and I treat him in a way that he likes. But he's not going to shed any tears if I don't show up as long as he's still fed and cared for. He might get bored or lonely if he doesn't get attention, and then be glad to see me, but not because it's me personally - just because it's someone who he trusts who will give him attention.
horses are like dog. they have the minds that are like us to. they get attached to you and relies on your like they are your mother (or father) in the wild and they think of you as their leader. of course they love you. if they didn't then they wouldn't respond to you and they would just walk away from you. horses are magnificent creatures!.

Horses do not have the complex mind that we do. Their mind is NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, like a dog's mind is, either. They are two COMPLETELY different species.
