Should I get a male or female horse?

Well first of all, you need to know the correct terms. A stallion is a male that can breed, a gelding is a male that has been castrated and can no longer breed, and a mare is a female. Definitely DO NOT get a stallion , they are very wild and hard to handle, especially if you are inexperienced. I personally prefer and recommend geldings. They generally have a very even temperament and are consistent in their moods. Mares go into heat and get to be really moody and sometimes downright mean. When mares are in heat they are mean to other horses, and to people. So I would definitely go with a gelding.
Usual a gelding is better for a new/beginner horse owner then a stallion or mare is just because their more willing to work and are easy going. A stallion is not for an inexperience person such as a person who has never owned or been around one and has no clue of the way to handle and take care of them. A stallion takes a lot of work compared to a gelding or mare. A mare can be ok for a new owner, but a gelding is more recommend is less you get a older mare that has been bred before and doesn't come into heat that much. As when mares come in heat they can be really stubborn and aggressive. There also more likely to not listen with being rode as they are in heat and will want to be with the other horses. A gelding is the best for a new owner/beginner as their very loyally, easy going, more easier to handle, and won't get to attached to the other horses. Their also great for someone learning to ride. I say if your a new horse owner that you should look for a gelding, but it's totally up to you. I prefer geldings or mares, but I do own a mare though I've been a horse owner almost my whole life and she has been breed before and you can't really tell if shes in heat. Also when looking for your first horse its best to buy an older horse as they have more training and knowledge then a younger horse. Hope this helps and Good luck! Tori:)
It's not male and female. It's gelding or mare. And it doesn ' t matter get what you want. As people on here have their own opinions as to which is better, when neither are. It just depends on the horse itself. Just like som people are moody and some aren't.
Get a gelding, mares are more moddy and bit, kick, scream and you don't have to deal with a gelding being in heat! Stallions can be just as bad as mares, and some are dangerous! But that only bad thing about a gelding is you have to clean it's sheath, its not as bad asyou think and you can pay someone or have your vet do it! Good luck! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I would get a male. Don't get a Stallion, unless you're going to breed. I love geldings. They can be used for almost anything and unlike mares, they don ' t go through heat so usually their temperaments don't change, which is nice. They are very reliable. I highly suggest you just go with a nice gelding
Generally speaking an older Gelding would be your best bet. Mares can be great but they do cycle and also can be bossy. I have a big ol mare and she is a totally different animal with me then my Hubby .. She is very snuggly with him with I'm the one she behaves with .. It's funny. . I haven't gotten a kiss out of her yet! lol
Mares (adult female) are not necessarily always moody and many are perfectly well tempered when in season, it really depends on the horse itself, however some prefer geldings ( castrated male) as a first horse due to their generally even temper.

Either can be fine.
I say male as female are usually more stroppier and moody. Males are easier going and always active.
I have a mare who can be very moody so I would get a gelding. I hear that geldings are your best bet. Don't have periods of moodiness or marishness whatever you want to call it.
Get a Gelded male .... the most even tempered. Definitely not a Stallion, very dangerous even to professionals .. .
It depends on you. You need to give us info on your experience. And it depends on the horse. I most often click with geldings, but I have a filly.
I would say get a gelding (castrated male) mares can be very moody
All depends on experience and what they'll be used for.

Just remember this:

You tell a gelding,

Ask a Mare,

Discuss it with a Stallion.
Geldings are usually more laid back.

Mares can be temperamental (saying that though my gelding has more mood swings than my mare did!)

Stallions .... well just don't one.
Gelding, Mares tend to be very moody. I have 2 mares and they don't like each other! When they come in season they hate each other! Geldings are much calmer and easier to work with!
Ive always ben told to go with geldings. Because mares' go in heat and intend to act up. But both can act up etc. ive known some mare's to be wonderful. But I would go with a gelding (=
Females are usually rude when they start horsing. So i would choose a gelding!:)
i have no clue which is better but I would get a female one
first learn the horse terms for male/female ...
