How long do horses live?

Depends on the health of the horse. Some only love to be in there 20's while some can live to 40. My friend had a old gelding that was 43.
My friends pony lived to the grand old age of 38, was still ridden bare back round the farm and still had the agility to jump the post and rails between fields when he felt like a change of scenery (or greener grass). old age caught up with him sudden and he was found in his open stable one morning fast asleep on the deep straw, never to wake again. l think somewhere in between 30 and 40 is usual. it also depends on what sort of life and care they have had.
It simply depends on the care they've had in their life. I bet genetics has something to do with it too. I know a few horses who were in their 30's. They are all swaybacked and gray in the face but still are doing just fine. One of them is 32, and still works at a disabled rider barn. They keep trying to retire him but he gets too depressed! A friend had a donkey who lived to be 47. He was old and shuffled when he moved but happy. The barn cats would sleep on his back while he was grazing. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

@ Rachel, your 35 year old looks FANTASTIC!!
Obviously it varies as with any living thing, but for a healthy horse, 20-30 years is typical, although it's not unheard of for a horse or pony to live into it's 40's. I'm not a pony person, but supposedly ponies tend to live a tad longer.
Most only make it to their 20-30's. Some expectational ones live to 35. The oldest horse was 51 years old! Check it out: http://www.ecmagazine.net/su04htm/oldest ...
In the wild it's usually in the 20s or 30s. Domesticated horses usually live longer. Usually it's 20-40 +, depending on a lot of different factors.
In the wild its up to 20's or 30's. Domestically it's generally on the 30 + side.

Some people at my yard hard a horse that lived to 43, still rode him when he was 40!
MKMK is wrong, i have a gelding that is 35 and is in great health, here is a pic of him http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad46/...
Most horses live into their late 20's - early 30's ... but there are some that can go into their 40's!
My old stallion is 38 this year and still going strong! He is retired except for riding down to the creek once in awhile.
My neighbors horse just had a heart attack at 28 but I had a trainer once who had a horse in his late 30's.
too long unless i have something to say about it ******
for ever no horse in created nor destroyed!!!!
