Have you ever encountered a horse that was "that one special horse" to you? What made the horse so special?
I have had the pleasure of riding many top horses, some were steeplechase winners of the Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup, I broke in two Epsom Derby winners. I have ridden three Olympic show jumpers, several top show horses and even a German medal winning dressage horse. All were lovely horses that I will never forget but if I could reincarnate any horse it would be a big heavyweight hunter I had for several years.
He stood 16.3 hands, was out of an Irish Draught mare by a Cleveland Bay and one of the nappiest horses I have ever come across!
He was 'a character' in every way and we built a terrific relationship. I could jump anything on him, hedges, ditches, gates walls and even on several occasions wire but, put a touch of paint to a pole and he wouldn't go anywhere near it!
He constantly bucked, pulled like a train but I learned a lot from him.
I did get him out of napping but I could never go to sleep on him or he would soon wake me up by using an ant under a dock leaf to spin around and probably jump a hedge or fence off the road into a field, bucking like stink on landing.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com In all the years I had him in my care I only ever fell off him once and that was by default. LOL I did a hand stand on his neck and landed standing in front of him - his face was a picture and his eyes were popping out of his head as if the say "All I did to drop you and nothing worked! I didn't do anything much and you fell off - I didn't mean it! '
When he came to the end of his days his owner humanely shot him whilst I held him and then we both got drunk.
Although he was a heavyweight horse he jumped like a stag and gave the nearest illusion I have ever had to flying. He could stand off from a five feet hedge by a stride and never once did I ever doubt that we would clear it.
A horse of a life time.
I've been lucky enough to have two very special horses (out of the many I have owned and ridden, these two really stuck with me ;-):
1) Tilly - this old mare was a rescue of sorts ... She had been a barrel racer for a women who had no idea what she was doing. She would whip and kick and run her everywhere. A couple I know took her over when the lady moved, but she was too much for their kids (reared over backwards when you tried to hold her back, bucked, ect). So I took her over - after lots of love and patience, she turned out to be such a wonderful girl! Did anything I asked without complaint, and even got to the point where I could put beginners on her under supervision and she gave lessons ;-) Quite an attitude at times, but it gave her character. She recently had to be put down due to complications from colitis, but I'll always remember her!

He did everything I asked, just a laid back, born broke guy. Very sweet, but didn't like other people riding him ;-) I had to sell him when I moved out for financial reasons, but I sure do miss him!
Well yes. I have met my one special horse. But the sad part: he's a schooling horse: (
He was the one trouble horse, he kept ramming me into walls, and stuff. But, he also is the horse I first cantered and jumped on! Besides that, he seems to know it's me and he actually likes me! Yay! Well, it seems he also likes to make me mad because after I groom him he ALWAYS goes and rolls. That; s the first thing he will do as he gets in the meadow!
yes, colleen and chocolate are, colleen tries to please everybody, not much people like her either because she is scared of poles or because she is too easy. i love her, i understand that she is scared, others sometimes don't they think she does it because she doesn't want to but i know she is scared. she is everything i could have asked for, my dream horse, only 4 problems that my dream pony wouldn't have, she is freaked out by poles (i understand, when i will quarterboard her, i will try and just walk her over a pole, just get her near one and i will reward her), she is a bit too old (25), she freaks out on crossties (i don't mind at all, she doesn't do it on purpose, she is just nervous), and she bites when you put on the girth (that is not her fault at all, just those beginners that ride her, she is soooooooooo sweet beginners ride her and they yank on the girth and hurt her , i will try putting up the girth 1 hole at a time and just putting my hand on the spot where the girth goes just to let her get used to it.chocolate is such a sweetie, he is sooooooooooooooooooooo special, tiny pony (under 12 hh) with a huge jump (can jump over 6 ft), i love jumping, one thing that chocolate is bad is that he bites. chocolate has a mind of his own, he is almost impossible to stop when he has his mind set.

i love jumping, even though colleen is scared, she is the first horse i ever jumped, 2nd horse i cantered on, first horse i cantered without falling off (not a fall, landed on my feet), colleen has my heart even though she is scared of what i love to do.
