Do you have to start riding at a young age to be good at it?

Now technically I started riding when I was 7 or so. But because lessons were so far away and we didn't have time to drive down there every day (or money for that matter. Lessons ARE expensive and I have a lot of things going on right now). But anywho, do you have to start riding when you're young? I'm 18, and I've recently developed a love for horses and want to take up lessons as soon as I can. Even if you ARE serious about riding, do you have to start at a very young age to be good at it? Am I too late?
My trainer (who is the president of Delaware Valley College's Equestrian Program, a level 5 show jumper, and British Horse Society Instructor) did not sit on a horse until he was twenty three years old. He is now in his early fifties and I can only hope that one day I will be half the rider he is.
No there is no certian riding age, people learn to ride at all ages and still be good! I think its a matter of who you train with, if you don't have a good trainer you don't progress that fast or if your more timid. I started when I was 7 and just started jumping last year, because I was timid and there is people at my barn that have been jumping and riding for 2 and can jump higher than me but you are not too old at all. My friend is 21 and just started riding and she owns her horse and is AMAZING. Good luck!
You are NOT too late. Anybody can become a great horseman with dedication, time, patience, and love. If you start younger and are consistent with it , you will have an advantage because you have that much more hands-on experience. You could start riding at 70 and become a great rider. You are fine, I promise! I hope you have fun!

You're just fine. There is no age limit to riding. Actually, there is pretty much no advantage I know of to learning as a kid as opposed to an adult. As long as you are determined, try hard, and listen to your instructor, there is no reason that you can't be a great rider.
No, it doesn't really matter when you start. You can catch up and be just as good as someone who's ridden since childhood. There was a woman at a barn I rode at who took her first lesson at age 50. She now rides with the local fox hunting club, that takes real skill. It's never too late.
Hi, no your not. I started young but I know plenty of great riders who didn ' t. I teach my little sister at the moment and she got on a horse for the first time ever at 15, plus a woman at my stables takes lessons and is around 65, so you'll be fine. Good luck, enjoy the lessons !
you defiantly don't need to start young. I mean i did and i know a lot more than others but i don't believe it affects how good you are at it. as long as you have a passion for riding your probably going to succeed.
It is never too late to learn to ride. If you are passionate about it and devote the time it takes to learn you can be a great rider.
