im just wondering how you kick/squeeze your horse on? ive been told loads of different ways.
eg posting trot=squeezing as you sit then relaxing when you post.
or kicking as you post and relaxing as you sit ..
which way do you use?
: O Excuse me .....?
As you sit, when the horse's outside shoulder comes back towards you, give a little nudge. You should be able to establish a rhythm and the nudge keeps it going. Your inside leg should be at the girth and outside leg slightly back to help the bend and control the quarters. It is the outside leg that will give the impulsion - ie keep it going! If you are having trouble then a few lunge lessons with exercises designed to lengthen and strengthen your legs and seat would be highly beneficial!
Well you're going to get a gagillion answers saying that you shouldn't kick your horse every stride but that was how I was taught to ride, and that is how a lot of horses are taught to be ridden. I don't actually need to kick my horse as he's voice trained but if I did it is always kick as you sit (there is a reason but I don't know it) I spent a few months having to re-learn how to trot because I used to do it the other way around=/NOT fun. So best to do it that way and save yourself the bad habbit:)
I find kicking as you post easier, but that might just be me, but don't do that, as it looks awful, and is a really bad habit of mine!
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Squeeze as you sit, and if your horse won't go forward keep 'nagging' at them with you legs, giving squeezes and kicks every time you sit:)
I use the squeeze, then again I ride Western so I am always sitting at the jog.
During English riding I ussually squeeze while posting, may seem hard but it give the horse a chance before you sit back down again.
Increase the 'volume' of asking you horse gently ... ie start by squeezing if he doesn ' t respond give him a kick if he still doesn't respond back up with the whip or reins. If you increase slowly like that then he will respond much more quickly when you squeeze.
it depends on the horse if it is forward going just give a squeeze to keep it going forward. If the horse is not very forward going try lots of little kicks, or normal kicks. it's different for every horse.
You should squeeze with your thighs while you post and sit if you want the horse to go faster. Also, whatever feels better (post/sit) that's when you kick, it doesn't really matter.
I will usually squeeze my legs, and make a clicking nose. But if the horse doesn't respond then i'll tap with my heel lightly, if the horse still doesn't respond then I'll kick
Squeeze as you sit, you'll lose your balance if you squeeze while you post.
I squeeze or I kiss to them.
It is easier to squeeze or kick when you sit and there is more of a responce
