Is barrel racing profitable?

Well, I like riding western and have been interested in barrel racing for a while now. I have heard people win money barrel racing because of the payback and jackpots and all that. Now that entices me, to be able to win enough money to cover the costs of competing at least. How much can yyou win (without being like a pro)?
OH YES IT IS! I just got back from a NV and I wan almost $ 900 ($ 876) And that was just the 2 days that I got money. The other 2 days I was 2 places out of the money and both of those days checks payed over $ 300. So if you run just right you can make ALOT of money especially if you have a nice horse. Thats how I keep racing, and buy all my stuff for my horses. I pay my own entrys and hope that I do good to make some money. Almost every race I go to I win back my entries and plus some.

And if you go to the bigger races they pay more money and you have a bigger percentage of money to win,.
Think of it as a hobby. Not a real money maker.

The costs aren't covered by what you win ..... in the long run.

# 1. You need a good prospect and a good trainer=monthly $ $

# 2. If you get a horse that's already proven=$ $ you still need a good trainer=$ $

# 3. The entry fees, the cost to haul a horse to and from places with these gas prices, if you can find a trailer buddy that would cut some of the cost ...

It can be $ 150 to enter a local show and you may win $ 300 or so. You already spent more than that in just getting ready for it.

So, no it's not profitable .... unless you go pro ... and that takes time and money and that's if you can afford to do the circuit which is thousands of dollars a year to get to win like $ 100,000 ....

It's for fun. Maybe you make a few bucks here and there.

** If you have parents who will pay for everything and you get to keep your winnings .... you can make money. Lol **
only the pros win
