Hi i have a 21/2 year old mare and she is kept at livery can a colt bring her into season at this time off year and put her in foal as a new colt has arrived at the yard not sure of his age and they want to put it in the field with my mare
Both previous answers are correct, a new boy can bring a mare into heat. Colts as young as six months old have also been known to get a mare pregnant. Even after gelding, colts should be separated for a few more weeks until all the semen clears the tracts ... just to be safe.
If push comes to shove, I hate to say it but you just might want to consider finding a new place to board your filly. Its not worth risking the health and/or life of your little girl to a stubborn barn manager. If you think she has been covered, you can call the vet out to inject her with whatever it is they use to make her abort the foal - and it may not be worth the argument at this point in time to see who pays for what, just get it done, pay the bill to the vet and then tell him to pay you back. If does agree to pay for anything ... GET IT IN WRITING.
Are you really THAT ignorant, or are you just pretending to be? OF COURSE this colt can get your filly pregnant!! If you don't want to be hearing the pitter patter of little hooves around the barn and yard next September, then KEEP YOUR MARE AWAY FROM HIM!!! A filly that age is NOWHERE NEAR old enough to have a foal yet-she's not even fully mature herself. If she foals that young, she could experience some really nasty complications. It could also stunt her growth to the point where she is no longer marketable as a riding horse. You either need to move the mare to another yard, or tell the stallion owner that he will be responsible for ALL COSTS in the event your mare ends up in foal. The law is on your side here, not his. Since he's the one who's instigating this situation by insisting on putting his stud in with your mare, then HE'S ALSO the one who needs to pay the bills, period.
Yes he can still bring her into season and make her pregnant. ALWAYS keep mares and colts seperated as even yearlings can get pregnant.

DO NOT by any means let them put that colt in with your mare. She could get pregnant and at that young of an age there would probably lots of complications.
Yup he will be able to get her pregnant, I've known a mare come into season in December because a new gelding came on the yard. Don't let them be in the same field. Apart from anything else your mare is really too young to have a foal - she's only a baby herself.
if the colt has been gelded then there is no risk to your filly. I would check this out before stressing too much. they may not be that stupid!
