Looking at trailers to buy. I've found one that has been refurbished and in working order but I can't think of what size horse it can take up to. I think large pony but what does everybody else think?
Any ideas?
I have a 15.2 h mare and a 15 h gelding and a trailer that size. Both fit fine and are completely comfortable loading and trailering in it. I'd say 16.2 would be the tallest i'd feel comfortable loading depending on the horse. your main problem comes when the horse is entering and exiting the trailer. their head will be elevated from where they would normally carry it so they can get on and off. that's when taller horses bump their heads. once on the head room isn't so much an issue. but if they always bump their head going on they won't want to go on.
My trailer is that size and I have a massive 15.3 gelding who fits fine. He was in my friend's really old trailer this weekend which was only like 6 feet tall and his ears were folded against the ceiling, poor guy. But he wasn't in there long luckily.
large pony for sure, i have a 7 ' and my 16.3hh tb fills it up to the point he has to wear the head bumper for unloading since he tends to raise his head a bit and when he raises it any more then normal level he touches the top.
6'6 " ; was the standard, now most are 7 '& over, horses use their head to balance, so being cramped in isn't the only draw back. Depending on the size of you horse, it should be OK.
